I can't believe this, IF gets sorted out and now ARMA 2 gets the terrible looking trees with the LOD really bad on some at close distances that pop in when you get closer so when you are in an area with lots of trees it makes me feel sick with all this 'swimming' going on!

It was all fine until the update with the 2 new graphics options which I do not know what to set them to even or what they do.

(and no it's not my PC at fault)

make sure ATOC is off, it defaults at 7, that helps.

Un-installed it all again and just installed the released patches and trees back to normal so it's the beta patches that's causing it for me. Sticking with the released patches only from now on.

...and then installing the new DLC has sent them bad again! After installing the ACR DLC I have the 2 new options in graphics again and bad trees.

I really hope this isn't where ARMA's graphics is heading as it looks terrible for me.

The new options are from 1.62, not the dlc. Have you enabled ATOC?

Really? Wonder if I can roll back to 1.60? Yes, ATOC on and off makes no difference.

I don't know how ATOC works post 1.62, but before it needed at least x2 AA. Maybe you've turned hardware AA off and you're just using shader AA, FXAA, which turns off ATOC?

I've been searching around and it seems ACR installs 1.62 so that is a problem for me. But looking back at the screenshots initially released by BI the trees are bad in them too and also others on BI's forums are having the same problem with bad LOD.

See this screenshot and this is what I see but worse sometimes:

Look at the trees on the hill on the left and the tree that looks like a flat model is what happens also the trees in the distance appear really flat even with distance pushed right out to maximum.

This happens with ATOC on and off and doesn't appear to make any visible difference at all. I bought ACR for the units etc and didn't expect it to ruin ARMA 2 for me frown

Is that an official promo screenshot...? With a glaring LoD bug in it? Oh BIS... dizzy

Anyway, to contribute, I've been seeing a similar issue during the beta, but a LoD fix went out shortly before 1.60 release which I assumed fixed it. Haven't noticed anything since 1.60 was released, but at this point I tend to overlook LoD problems in ArmA anyway. It's just part of the engine, and should hopefully be fixed in A3. It doesn't affect gameplay, after all.

My trees have always looked like that, both in Arma and IF.

oooo that, i get that as well, annoying as hell sometimes. I find zooming in on that tree and back out again fixes it, tis a pain though.

To fix tree problems just get the summer tree mod. No more crappy orange/red tree's. No more LOD issues. Been using it for years. Can't even remember fall time in chernarus or other maps.

Do you have the ACR DLC? As using that mod disabled ACR and even when I stopped loading the tree mod my saves could no longer be used.

No I do not have ACR. I am a Steam only version. As I said in another post ACR is verrrrrry buggy. I do not understand why they released it so soon.

I do know that you have to load this mod in a certain order on you command line. i.e. -mod=....,@summer,@....,@...
I will look what I have it set at when I get home tonight.

This is my mod line. You have to put the summer after the official stuff. Now mine shows BAF and stuff because of my ramdisk so don't mind that. If I put it in front of Sahrani it crashes. So maybe you put the summer after the ACR.

-mod=f:\EXPANSION;f:\CA;f:\arma 2;f:\@CBA;f:\@Sahrani;f:\common;f:\BAF;f:\PMC;f:\@Summer;f:\@Islands;f:\@sthud;f:\@SimHQ_ONE
