I'm having a devil of a time seeing a difference in the AI radio commands. Open to suggestions as I have obviously gotten rusty on using the old IL2 commands.

I set up a mission of 4 Hurricanes against 8 109s and 6 Ju88s. The purpose was to test both the formation flying by the AI before and after the mission, and behaviour during furballs.

* Formation flying: flight responds nicely to orders regarding formation shape and spacing, (though they do tend to scatter like frightened chickens when you give an order.)

* Landing: I could still not find a command to order the flight to land? I could find a command requesting landing permission, but no way to order my flight to land, break off from combat, or rtb. Coming in to land after the furball, two of my wingmen crashed on approach following me down in formation. Two of them however hauled off and started circling the airfield, after I had landed, and just continued circling (they didn't try to land - I left them circling for about 10 mins before giving up). I had read this behaviour had been fixed, but will test again to see if it happens again, because at the moment it doesn't seem so.

Is there a command to order a flight to land, break off or rtb?

* Combat: I chose flight, and ordered them to go after the bombers, which they did. On restart I chose flight and ordered them to go after the fighters but this had a mixed effect, some did, some went after the bombers. Frustratingly, after I was out of ammo, I padlocked an enemy 109, and tried every radio command in the list to try to get any of the aircraft in my flight to attack it, but they stayed in formation with me, even though we were being attacked by the 109s. I could not find a command to get them to report their ammo and fuel status, but I assume they were all out of ammo and/or following a rejoin routine and therefore just stayed in formation with me...either that or the radio commands are not working. I can only conclude from this, that the stupid AI is still stupid!

I am really missing commands to warn a wingman to break left, right, high or low. Nothing worse than watching a 109 which is behind your wingman, and watching him carve up your wingman because you can't warn him. And I am really missing AI which realises that even though it may be out of ammo and bobbing around in formation behind its leader, if it is attacked, and the enemy is still nearby, it should react!

Same here.. Response to spacing and formation changes are good, but as for landing, there is no command (as far as I can see) to order my flight to land. When I land then they pile in as usual.
I do understand though that the patch was not focused on improving commands, although for me this is one of the things that must be improved to have any semblance of a good offline experience, let alone a decent campaign.

Regarding wingman ai, I've always found it hilarious that you order them to attack and they immediately expend all their ammo in one long burst instead of properly managing their ammo in short precise bursts; I guess they had a date and were eager to get back to base... biggrin

If you follow this guide (it requires you fiddle around in the mission builder, with the skill settings) you can avoid that.

http://bobgamehub.blogspot.dk/2012/03/ai-settings-in-cliffs-of-dover.html

Still, it doesn't help much if after a ten minute furball your wingies all form up on you while you are in the middle of a dogfight!

I found that I can play single player but as soon as I join the ATAG Server (lowest ping running current version) I get a Launcher crash,
I also am having an issue where all the planes want to roll right no matter how much opposite rudder is applied; they yaw left, but roll right, very peculiar, almost flies like the DR.I in RoF but at least there the rudder response is more realistic. I have tested this in all my flight sims so I know it's not a joystick issue it has to be in the code.

For landing it seems like you have to:

- Fly back to the designated airfield, i.e. not alternates, as the RTB or 'land now' AI command is gone.

- Ask for vectors on the way back. I don't know if this is necessary, but when I do it things work better.

- Fly over the airfield and your flight will get called down one by one, i.e. element 4, 3, 2 and then you. The AI wingmen have to go first, otherwise if you try to land first as flight commander then they seem to follow you down but not twig you are landing. You should get a 'Flight 4, join the circuit' ground call and can watch them all land.

- When it's your turn to land then on finals I've tried a few 'Permission to land?' calls, but ground control always just denies. I ignore them, because at least the flight has already landed.

The AI commands are obviously still half-baked.

After you land, get off the runway, if you are still on the runway, no one else can land. I typically go park a nearest hangar/tower, tent, or embankment. Only after I've pulled off the field per se, will the AI come down to land.

This has not changed since the last patch however, it worked that way then.

I'm sorry guys I cant do it. I can not bring myself to reinstall it. And Im not trying to flame or troll just telling you how it is. 1C has left such a bad taste in my mouth over all of this that I do not think at least as of right now that I will ever buy another product of there's again.

I respect all the members of the community here and all the dedication and love that you have given this sim. But I dont have it in me to go through that pain again.

Anyways I wish you all the best and happy hunting but I think I am going to stay on the ground for this one
