The author of the article said Prometheus was "complicated." WTF? I want the next writer to pay more attention to detail, not less.

Go for it! I'd like more story and less survival action this time, although that goes against the grain of the entire series.

Hell...if you saw the film all the way to the end, you HAD to know there was going to be a part two.

This is the end I wanted to see:

My expectations for the sequel are pretty low after my disappointment with the first flick but maybe that's a good thing. wink

I doubt a sequel to the prequel will clear up that mess of a plot.

Well Linde-LOST isn't invited back for the next one...so that's a bit of good news...

Dunno how they can recover from his mess.

I liked Prometheus even with its flaws and unlike "Total Recall" it did very well at the box office, hence the sequel.

Just remember he was brought in because they didn't want the earlier version as it stood.

To blame him alone is disingenuous.

Why hire a TV hack though when I am sure there are many really talented writers who would love to tackle the challenge? LOST is a great example of writing by the seat of your pants without a plausible ending in mind.

...or writing yourself into a corner!

Jedi, you are correct, the problems SHOULD have been caught and corrected by others in the project. But...they weren't. And I have to wonder if this is a repeat of the "StarWars Ep1 2 3 yes George, that sounds great George, bestest awesomeness ever George!" that we all suspect occurred - no one saying "hey this doesn't make sense" because he'd be out of a career instantly.

I mean, if you normally do work on Spy Kids, and suddenly you are working on an epic sequel for Ridley Scott (isn't he also knighted by the Queen for something?), maybe you just keep your mouth shut and assume they know what they are doing!

I don't know him personally so I have no idea if Scott was demanding that kind of blind obedience but it wouldn't surprise me if this was that case.

He also worked on Crossing Jordan, Star Trek, and Cowboys and Aliens, so it's not like Lost is his entire resume.

Why he was picked specifically? No idea. Writers are picked seemingly at random all the time for films.

Also, you can't put the total blame for Lost on him. JJ Abrams and Jeffrey Lieber all shared credit for creating the show, and he only wrote 45 eps himself out of 121.

The list of executive producers includes those 3 plus:
Bryan Burk
Carlton Cuse (from episode 9)
Jack Bender (episodes 14–121)
Jeff Pinkner (season 3)
Stephen Williams (seasons 4-5)
Edward Kitsis (seasons 5–6)
Adam Horowitz (seasons 5–6)
Jean Higgins (season 6)
Elizabeth Sarnoff (season 6)

with Lindelof and Cuse serving as showrunners.

I don't think he'd expect blind obedience...I think employees working on the project would themselves give him blind obedience out of fear of pissing him off and ruining their own careers.

See, if the director is new/no name, maybe you can think:
"hey, maybe if I save him from a mistake, he'll keep me for the next project, and if he's pissed off, eh, he's a nobody and I'll still get something".

But if the director is a household name worldwide...then maybe the thinking is:
"oh...this doesn't seem good. Should I say something? Do they have part of the plot hidden from us underlings? That NDA was downright scary, maybe they have hidden scenes that make sense out of this project. Besides, I haven't seen the latest re-writes yet. Surely they'll fix it. Oh, can you imagine if I said something, but they already had a plan or fix for it? Boy I'd look stupid, or even worse, make the big director look like an idiot in front of everyone. Yea, I'd never be called back for a project again, I'd be blackballed from industry...ok, note to self, no matter how big the plot hole, just keep your yap shut! They know what they are doing"

Even if Sir Scott is open to suggestions and criticism...the crew may not all be aware of it. BTW: I suspect the same thing occurred over at Lucas' last three movies, and I'll bet he's more flexible and open than most directors...but if your career is 100% dependent on that one man's opinion of you...and you don't see the big picture, well, that's how it goes.

I also suspect that Scott's earlier scripts worked well enough, and didn't have holes in them, but bringing in Lindelost then brought all sorts of false flags, diversions, strange behavior just to throw off the audience. And by then, I'm thinking that Scott may have not had that much time to really look over the script's deeper problems, instead confident from earlier ones, and just looking to add spice and glitter to the script...not realizing that there were now serious holes in the end product.

If you've ever written a document that was complex, had to be correct, and had dozens upon dozens of revisions, I'm sure by the end of it, you become too used to the content, start to skip or miss things, and either become overconfident of it, or under confident and want a 3rd party to look it over for glaring errors you suspect you had. I suspect Scott just got too used to the scripts to see plot holes growing, and got bogged down with a complex but tight and fast production schedule to see the problems developing.

Just IMO.

I've read somewhere that during the production of Blade Runner, the crew didn't enjoy working for and with Ridley Scott. So, maybe he is "difficult". smile

Whoever made the decision to turn those first two scientists into redshirts, ie the idiots who decided that cobra-shaped alien life forms should be played with, should have been fired. Seriously. It was at that point that the movie lost a lot of its power over me.

Indeed. Mine was already waning at that point but only-minutes-earlier terrified scientists deciding to coo lovingly at a freaky looking alien snake did, indeed, jump the proverbial shark.

Well to be fair, it was only one of the two scientists who was lovingly cooing at the transformed worms like some innocent 5 year old kid seeing a tiger for the first time at a zoo. wink

However, what is truly sad is that this guy was a BIOLOGIST. You'd think he would have known better.

I think the documentary on the Blade Runner set goes into that dust-up with the crew. Scott made a comment in an interview about how the crews in the UK and US were different, how the UK crews were all "good morning, gov" or whatever, and the US crew got all ticked off and even made T shirts mocking that phrase.

Anyway, I think that scene was originally a replay of Hurt's scene in Alien, and it was rewritten to let them see the whatever-it-is before it attacked as opposed to it just being an instant attack. Besides, if you were a biologist, wouldn't you stare at a pale cobra with a vag for a mouth??? biggrin
