So I am trying to load some oldies but goodies that will run on my son's computer so we can try some LAN multiplayer. Rogue Spear works, and I had the idea to try Swat3. It runs fine on his old machine! I installed from my Swat3:Elite Edition CD and patched up to the TGOTY version. I can see a game created on that machine via the LAN, but it is always RED and the info indicates "DIFFERENT DATA FILES".
I triple checked the Mods, and disabled all from both sides, or enabled the same ones to now avail. I even tried uninstalling and updating differently.
My Elite CD is version 1.4 so I tried both the sequence of:
1.6UPgrade
1.7Upgrade
2.0 Upgrade
2.1 Upgrade
MissionUpgrade
and sequence leaving out the 1.7 and going straight from 1.6 to 2.0 as indicated here:
http://mods4games.info/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=56I copied over the MODS and MISSIONS folders from my machine so they are the same and copied over the NOCD .exe I had on my machine as well to no avail. I guess I will try copying the entire contents of the SWAT3 folder from one machine to the other and see if that works.
I don't recall having this issue before. I had to enter the CD key, so maybe it doesn't like having the same CD Key on 2 machines, but then, I would think the error message would be different. Maybe I should just re-purchase from GOG.com and install that version on both machines.
EDIT: The brute force expedient of copying over my entire SWAT3 folder did indeed work! Still curious WHICH files were different from the direct install. I guess I can do a comparison, since I renamed but didn't delete the old folderAny ideas???
