I wish they would take barbed wire out of the game as it does not stop zombies getting through and all it does is leave buildings with no way in. Can see it only as a mechanic by people to deny others from getting loot when they have logged out.

Unless they stop zombies running through it (and doors) or create a wire cutter tool it really serves no purpose other than to annoy.

Agree 100% with that statement and the doors as well. Tired of seeing zombies pop through doors without at least just a little effort but you as a player must go through a menu item as it were to open a simple door or gate. I understand the game play mechanic side but it does need to be fixed.

They should remove barbed wire completely, it provides no benefits and causes graphics corruption triangles/polygons for many people if they look toward where the barbed wire is setup, I keep wondering why they leave it in.

If they stopped them running through doors it would increase the tension with a horde collecting outside waiting for them to burst through or seeing them outside a chain link compound smile

Actually, if you find a toolbox you can remove player deployed barded wire (and tank traps) from any building or area. You have to target the "poles" and then hit the "use" key. You get an animation and the wire then goes away.

As to stopping Zeds, in building they slow down anyway so wire is not needed. Players place it so they can trap players and take their stuff. Be wary if you see wire anywhere. I have not used wire myself but remove it (or should say my friend with the toolbox) whenever we encounter it. I really have no problem with wire anywhere, just needs to be removal as it is.

I have to go contrary to the majority opinion here.

Loot denial is exactly what barbed wire serves and I for one think its a relevant mechanic in an anarchronistic setting, of which DayZ is one. As politically incorrect as it will sound, I don't see anything wrong in denying survival items from competing survivors anymore than it is wrong to shoot some stranger you just met in DayZ just because you want his beans. I know I have been put in very precarious situations more than once because I ran out of food/water and by and large you cannot depend on most folks in DayZ to be charitable so I much rather kill them for loot or make it difficult for them rather than live in harmony with them.

I will however like to see them make barbed wire zombie-proof. Then at least it makes the item more valuable, versatile and purposeful and gives you the tantalizing hard choice whether you want to use up precious inventory slots to carry enough of it to plug up buildings with several exits and turn the place into a defensible temporary shelter. Some buildings have so many exits it is not practical to be carrying a lot of barbed wire, but still it will be a balance to carry some to cater for dwellings with lesser number of exits.

The current problem with zombies popping into buildings without opening closed doors needs to be fixed. There's more than once I waited for them to come in so that I can sprint outside again but got slowed down because I had to re-open a door which by right should have been opened by the zed.

[edit] While on the subject, I think they should return the ability of zeds to climb ladders. I notice they don't climb up after the player anymore.

Yeah my main beef with barbed wire is it's currently bugged for some graphics cards whenever they look towards it, see an example here:

So currently some people use it in ambush locations to help "blind" their victims.

IMHO until they fix whatever is bugged with it and causing those graphics issues they should remove it as it makes popular locations like Cherno/Electro/Airfields a graphic error location for many people in addition to the already existing PVP danger.

PS. Last night I had a Z climb up a deerstand ladder after me, so the Z's can still climb some ladders.

PPS. Just saw the latest update will fix the barbed wire bug woohoo!

The graphical artifacting seems to be an issue for most players. The dev team is working on a fix for the next update, v1.7.2.5.

Ah so that's what I was seeing on Saturday.
It was a hot day and I though my GPU was overheating so shut it down just in case, seems I needn't have worried.
Glad theve found a fix for it.

I've had this issue before as well and wondered what caused it. Doesn't seem to be an issue lately but I've kept mostly to the sticks.
