It is not a case of launching the game ...... it is a case of the video drivers for the modern video cards not being able to support the video modes that the Smacker routines in the game are using.
When Windows 2000 and later came out, the creator of the Smacker SDK (RAD Game Tools) released a new updated version called Bink SDK. They changed the format of the video file also at this time. I believe they also have a tool to change the old Smacker format files into the new Bink format files.
Of course should some nice person want to spend around $10,000 or so to purchase the usage rights to use this new Bink SDK and donate it to the EAW code group, I am sure it would make the task much easier and they would be grateful for it.

You got a spare lazy $10,000 or so laying around by chance ???? smile

But emulator can override "modern video cards drivers" settings. I think, I will test EAW in DOSBOX. I don't know, will 1.28 E under Windows 95 launch though...

You may want to rethink that idea.
No software can access the hardware directly .... it has to go through the hardware driver, and only if the operating system will allow that to happen. If a driver does not support a certain set of instructions, then no matter what an emulator tries to do, it can not make a video card operate in a mode that does not exist in the driver.

Unless 1.28 E has been compiled using different compile settings from what I remember, it should work with Windows 95.
Maybe Ralf or one of the other current code group members can confirm this for us. smile
