Hi I'm new to OFF, I've been playing it for about a week or so. been slowly getting the hang of flying again and a feel for the flight models, ok so i've killed myself 5 times.. twice wasn't my fault was archie.... smile anyways too my post.

In workshops options screen there is a Wind On/Off Option i've been playing with Wind set to On. every once in awhile i sense a feeling of crosswind however, I have failed to identify either wind direction in general or a wind indication device, that tells me wind direction.

I'd find wind direction to be an extremely usefull bit of knowledge given the speeds and designed of crafts we are flying, also beings RC planes are a hobby of mine i also know a few things you can achieve with wind in certain directions to craft.

long winded post smile i'm just asking where the wind indication device is located smile i sense a forehead slapping moment.

P.s
excuse my grammar, writing English defeats me.

Your English is fine, Wulff - I don't dare to imagine how it would be, if all
the native English or French speaking people here would have to write in German. biggrin

Firstly: Welcome over Flanders Fields (although there are also some fine places in the
Marne and Verdun Regions, or in Alsace)!

Flying the sturdy Albatros mostly, I never cared much about the wind direction yet - it could never
really blow me out of my starting or landing path.
But there is a windsock on every airfield, which MAY show you the direction (not sure about that).
Then you also get a weather report before each mission. Not sure if it contains "Wind info",
but I'd have a look there.

I would like to add you to our "OFF Pilots Maps". If you send me a message with your hometown,
I will do that. Enjoy the flying, Wulff!

(PS: to be correct, it would have to be "Freiherr von Wulff" - but then it's only just an
avatar name. I guess it's okay.)

I noticed the windsock, but one at my airfield seems to point the same way every mission so i wasn't sure if it worked. I guess i could pay more attention to it, and run a few tests. flying into wind can provide more lift and flying away from, more speed. so it shouldn't be too hard to determine if windsock works smile

Weather reports never give me wind direction. I have historical turned on, and i vaguely remember reading a book that mentioned during winter months over the front the wind blew from east to west. Its one of the reason the German pilots rarely followed enemy over the lines towards beginning of war.

I guess i should just go drive upto a windsock and see if its moving.

Also, I noticed, that the aircraft are often placed differently at the field, before you start.
Sometimes they stand at the tent-side of the runway, another they stand at the other end.
This must be due to the wind direction, I guess, cause you should always start and land into
the wind. So, if that is correctly simulated, your start shouldn't be a problem.
For landing, you could try to remember the direction you started in;
and still fly low over the windsock to make sure the wind hasn't changed?

Freiherr_Wulff welcome and good english smile.

The weather report does give wind direction and speed before a mission. Go to workshops and turn on Persistent Weather Stats, may help you to see the info more.
I can't check in OFF at the moment but it should mention an average wind direction in degrees.

Go to the Blue Sticky Area OFF Essentials ( Links, Tips, Tweaks ) Page 4. . Scroll down till you see my name, and start reading ( there's 4 pages of them )

It tends to answer many questions before they're asked
