I'm on the fence regarding getting SF2 North Atlantic. Aside from rudimentary CV ops and a lot of blue ocean scenery what do I get that I don't already have with WOI and WOE? I see "War At Sea" Missions and Soviet Naval Ation is represented. May be worth it (?)
Thanks in Advance.

GO!

IMO, this sim is well worth it and IMO it's one of the best of SF2 series if not the best.

The improvements on this sim regard the previous SF2 ones are:
-> F-14 with TWS radar implemented where you can lock up to six (6) targets and engage all these 6 targets at the same time with the phoenix missiles (provided that you carry 6 AIM-54 phoenix missiles).
-> IMO the best campaign of SF/SF2 series with naval groups (where the ship that's destroyed/sunk stays sunk for the rest of the campaign) and with US Marines that will land on the shores of Iceland after some time.
-> Enemy Soviet bombers that will launch long range anti-ship missiles that you can engage and/or that can be engaged by SAMs from our own escort ships (cruisers, destroyers and frigates).

and on top of that you can use all the SF2/NA mentioned stuff in SFI and E like a nice task force setting out in the Med getting ready to pound some evil-do-er's

Get it. The only gripe, (other than it didn't reinvent the wheel :P ) is that the terrain doesn't run very smooth. So if you have an older machine especially, get this mod. Makes it run as smooth as previous titles, and even look better IMHO. Perfection.

So far,so good. Thanks for the input.I'm assuming Soviet Navy units put up a decent defense?

Well, they did until the June patch, at which point the SAM's became completely ineffective. They rarely track anything and almost never hit, even if I fly straight and level over the battle group at 6000' and 450kts with no ECM. Prior to the June patch, I had to use everything I knew about SAM evasion tactics to get within striking distance of the Keiv. Even then, getting out after I'd dropped my bombs was another serious challenge.

I started a thread to report it to TK, but it's been unanswered at this point.

Bought it last week and I'm completely satisfied with the product. Nice F-14 model, nice radar and missiles implementation. Good looking visuals and lot's of fun playing it. cheers

O.K. I'm sold IF the June patch features are not automatically included in the download. If I can avoid that ,I'm in.
