And what a series. Purple hair and those tight fitting uniforms did strange things to me as a teenager

OT +1 Great show! I bought and watched the series a few years ago. I enjoyed the dark and serious tone of the show. It even had an overarching plot through the series that was quite interesting. There was talk of a movie adaption of UFO...I guess it fell through? sad...

Had to read the books as the TV channel it was on was not available in my area, got to ss it many years later and really enjoyed the series. As for the film they seem to be still planning for a 2013 release .... http://www.ufo-themovie.com/shado/

It was a great series! I saw the complete box set in stores a few years ago as well as the complete box set of Space 1999, probably the best sci-fi series ever. I even had a Viewmaster set of UFO slides as a kid and they were great!
It would be awesome to see either a UFO movie and/or a Space 1999 movie. A series reboot would great as well.

I caught a few on U tube. The story line of raiding earth for body parts was interesting. Hope they do a movie.

I can remember the first broadcast of Space:1999 and have managed to watch all episodes one way or another through the years, great series and well acted. but some "funny" monsters and a bit dumbed down in the second series when Catherine Schell joined. The first or pilot episode was written by E.C. Tubb and was a good book to read.

They'd F up Space:1999 even worse than Verhoeven F'd up "Starship Troopers" or IMO JJ Abrams F'd up "Star Trek."

I can remember the first broadcast of Space:1999 I remember it took two episodes for me to give up on it, during it's original broadcast (so many hopes for SciFi fans back then... wasn't it Asimov who publicly lambasted the show the morning after the premiere). A few years ago, I forced myself to watch all of Space 1999. One thing that I noticed in that full viewing, was something that I never ever realized before... that to watch all of it, I must've become a masochist sometime since the first airing. However, I did love UFO. Interesting thing about those infamous purple wigs is that Sylvia Anderson thought wigs would become part of uniforms in the future. In 1970, that was not an unreasonable assumption (completely wrong, but not at all unreasonable during those particular times).

I watched a few episodes of Space:1999 and I was not too impressed (imho, ymmv). It had some intereting ideas and themes and I would definitely watch a reboot of this series.

Been watching Space1999 myself...and yes, the first episode was great except for the stupidity of "sending the moon flying fast"...if it had that much power, it'd have broken it appart, and crushed the entire crew of Alpha under massive G-forces.
BUT, there have been some really great stories in the first season. And some iffy or crappy episodes too. And some of the stories would have been good, but were too plodding in the pacing. Second season...ugh...not exactly thrilled about the cartoonish dumbing down of it.
A reboot of that COULD work I think...except that when I started thinking about what a reboot might look like, I was drawn right to Stargate Universe! And the more I thought about it, I figured between SG:U and BSG:Frackin'Reboot, there might not be room in the public's appetite for yet another "new planet, new creature of the week" travel show.
