Guess I'm curious about this question and response: Q: Will DCS World modules (is it fair to call them DLC?) be available on Steam or the download through Steam?
Matt: That is our intent, but contrary to what most gamers think, just because a company pitches Valve to sell a title on Steam doesn’t mean it will happen. More and more so, it is getting difficult to get Steam to pick up titles by small developers, like Eagle Dynamics. As such, we are also working with other digital distributors like GameFly and Origin. Of course, all our titles are for sale on our web site, and this is our preferred means of sale.
Specifically, because Steam (especially vs Origin) has proven to be something of a godsend to Indie developers. Indeed, they have an entire section of their online store dedicated to "indie" titles. And in any case, we already have DCS: A-10 and DCS: Black Shark (1) on the store. Once you have a title there, I've never heard of Steam turning down DLC for it. Heck, there are more than NINETY (90!!) DLC modules for 'Train Simulator' on Steam. This would really seem to be the natural fit for 'DCS: World' - almost that exact same model! (And let me add another gripe at present about the inability to buy "Black Shark 2" on Steam. Have you tried pitching it as just DLC for BS1? That would kinda be accurate to describe what it is, so while I get that Valve wasn't keen on you selling it as a distinct standalone title...that does makes sense, after all. It requires BS1, it's effectively a very large expansion for it...call it DLC for DS1 and re-submit it! I want to buy it, but I want to do so through Steam...) you gotta look at the % per sale that steam keeps. and when they do the super sales, steam takes their % first. which is why so many Developers are just hosting their own stores and keeping 100% of each sale.

Skate - Not quite right. Steam's percentage stays the same but they base it on revenue of units sold at end-price, not the list price. Put another way, if you sign a deal with Steam for a 25% distribution deal and it's on retail at $30 but then on sale for $4 then they get $1 per unit and not the full $7.50. A good title will still make more on volume, hence why the sales are popular with purchasers and developers. Keeping 100% is ideal (if you don't count the cost to do the store, web/staff etc) but it's a big market of potential buyers. Niche sims can do ok without it, but not all sims want to stay niche. Offering on as many stores as possible seems to be the way to go. Steam does turn down a lot of games, which is why the Green Light thing has come about.

I guess DCS World is already a step towards steam type distribution methods... "Free to Play" (in this case even with real content!) is very popular these days.

Q: Have any non-combat / civil aircraft developers been in contact with Eagle Dynamics to discuss aircraft development?Matt: Part of our agreement with all 3rd parties is that it is up to them to announce and discuss their products. As such, I cannot comment on unannounced 3rd party projects.--------------- I hope PMDG or Carenado gets in touch with ED.. That would be interesting.. How about a CaptainSim C-130 participating in DCS World..? Remember the mission in Jane's F-15 where you escort the C-130 out of Iran (I think was?).. BeachAV8R

And no one asked what the next DSC plane would be? (or did I miss that?)
Good interview, as guarded as Matt was. I just downloaded DCS World and A-10C module this weekend. Man, I like where this is going! What a job that must have been parsing out everything from the A10...
I remember DiD trying the very same thing 12yrs ago. What's that line, "the future's so bright, I need shades to see!"

And no one asked what the next DSC plane would be? (or did I miss that?) I think that folks - while probably still curious - feel a huge weight of interest lifted off them in 'what is Eagle Dynamics working on next?' as a result of the demonstrated ability for third-party developers to plug into the world. Basically, we now have a better feeling that - even if ED *isn't* working on a specific aircraft we are interested in - someone is, or could be. Now, I'd still like ALL of this material to show up as DLC on Steam (seriously - 'Train Simulator' sales model guys! 90 different DLC!), but it's a promising start.

Origin ............. Matt is having a joke with us .. right ??
Does ED have a marketing/promotion department at all ?
Iam just curious , because we have had 2 "SUPRISE" releases so far without any publicity to promote their new products
Would advertising not bring them more sales ?
Iam really happy with the DCS World being released and Iam really liking the su25
The tool they wrote last week to fix account issues is another good move by ED
