Been flying version 4.04 since it came out.
Never updated because I didn't like the way the P-51 was handled in further versions.
But I really would like to use rockets on my Mustang.
I fly one mission every day....for the past several years...so rockets would really make the game
much more enjoyable.
I use the DCG and fly Pacific Fighters.

Anyone know if you can add the hvarap rockets to the wings.
I remember someone once told me you could change the pacificplanes.dat file.
I tried that several years ago, and must have gotten the exact instructions wrong, it didn't work.

I'd like to give it another shot....if anyone can help.

Murphy.

I'd update to the latest version and try the latest UP or HSFX if you like the P-51. These both have the F-51 included and you can load 10xHVAR rockets on it, they can even be fired singly which is nice. I don;t know about rockets on the 'D' but I'm pretty sure you can do that too.

The FM was fixed properly in 4.09 too, or 4.10. (Adjusted CofG)

4.04? Wow!

With 4.11.1 and HSFX 6 you get Mustangs with 150 octane gas and a higher manifold pressure. You are missing out.

Yeah, I know....4.04m....but it's a great game with DCG.
I can alter anything I'd like...but problem is, I can't get a real P-51, which is the reason I love flying so much.
So I fly a Corsair in the European Theater....I get rockets. But still, I know the P-51 was a more agile and faster bird than in this game....so I'd love to try it as it was in RL. I gave up when they went to version 4.07, it was sad.
I argued here with many people....and finally went my own way with DCG.

A problem I may now have is I'm still using the same box I built for IL2;

ASUS P4P800 Deluxe MOBO - 865PE Chipset
PIV - 3.0 GHz/oc 3.4 GHz - 800FSB Hyperthreading
2GB of 'matched' Patriot SDRAM 3200LL DDR 400
NVIDIA XFX 7900GS DDR3 AGP 4X/8X

So I'm right on the edge with Pacific Fighters.
I don't own IL2-'1946'.
What does it take to run this game...PC wise?

I have never used this box online, and have WinXP trimmed down as fast as it will go.
But still......

So I'd upgrade, if I could....but would need a little advice, if I could handle the speed.
I've read the top thread....sounds like 4.11.1....and a lot of downloading.

And for the purists.....I don't care how 'you' think the P-51 flies...it's my game, I don't fly online, never have.
I believe Oleg...he and I have exchanged several ideas, was wrong in his perception of the aircraft.
I believe his Russian data was false. He, and his people, believed it was better than the American flight data.
Then he added "Deflection" to the P-51's guns, that was when I left.
But bless him for the game, I knew him on the EAW forum. He was a true flight simmer.

I've flown this game probably as many hours as anyone on this forum.
Years of hours....and hours.

If any of my old forum pals are still here.....'hello'....still a great game!
Sure was worth the pennys I've spent on the games and box.
I really would like to know how many hours I've flown......I fly once every day, a mission takes about 90 minutes, average. I have all the people I know 'virtually' in my Squadron, faces and individual aircraft paint placed.

I've flown since the first IL2 game was sold, upgraded my PC when Pacific Fighters was in the works.
...lol...it was "State of the Art"....lol......now my "wives' notebook", is faster.... wink

As always, this forum is great for generous advice....thanks for the time guys.
I appreciate any help.

Murphy

Since you can have as many installs of il2 on your computer as you have room for, you won't have to give up PF to try 1946 with one of the mod packs. I suggest HSFX6. I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised with the Mustang. Also, you'll have some beautiful, full-sized maps of Western Europe to play on.

So Murph...lol...you think I can get a decent FPS view with that old box?
One more question....does the '51 have rockets, with 'IL2-1946', and that MOD?

My HD is only 40 Gig, I built that when smaller was better.
So I'd have to kick off FOW or SHIV....which would be OK.
Or I suppose I could add a bigger HD...but then I'd need to reinstall.

I'm getting too old for all this, dunno.
I looked up the disc...it's certainly cheap enough...I paid at least $40 for all the others,
IL2, BOE, Pacific Fighters...this one is about 10 bucks, shipped.

Just wondered what speeds it recommends on the box.

My MSSWFF and pedals/throttle are still working fine....can't believe it.

What do you guys use now?

You might want to think about a new PC if you can afford it. My rig is in my sig. My PC runs this with no stutters or pauses at a steady 60FPS with vertical sync on to prevent tearing with the trackIr.
Yes, the late model P 51 in HSFX6 can carry either the older, tube type rockets or HVARs.
And, since you like the F4U, you'll be able to fly on the new, full-sized map of the entire Solomons Chain.
But, again, you'll probably need a more powerful PC with at least 8G of memory to run this stuff.

Yup, figured that.

Well, I've got the cash...but hate to part with it.
Retired, nothing coming in, all goes out.

But hey...I'm getting so old...maybe I should part with it, it's my favorite 'entertainment'.
One gold eagle should do it.
Maybe...The big PC's are getting cheaper I would think.
Less than a grand, right?

I built my own and it cost me about 700-800 dollars, but I kept my old video card, which was still fairly new. Others around here could probably give you some good suggestions for under $1000. I would recommend going with an nvidea rather than an ATI video card, it just runs il2 better.

Thanks Murph.
Yeah, I been looking around.
Newegg has some nice stuff, I built my last one from there.
I always liked Nvidea better, though they always told me ATI was faster.

But this new stuff is a little daunting to me.
I can't even figure out the speed from all the numbers they stuff in there.

Ahhh...life used to be so simple....lol.......

Well, I copied your specs...I'll start from there.
The processor and RAM are the heart....so I'm getting that it's gonna have to be 8GB for the processor and at least 2GB for the RAM?
I can see my system is really lacking in the processor.
The video card will be the icing...and the money.
Do people still have a hundred opinions on the cards?....lol.....

Anyway...thanks for the start. smile

Maybe I can salvage the PSU...lol;
