You can find an OEM disk of win7 for a lot less than $180. I think I paid a little over $100.

vpmedia - nice view...wider than mine on 'Pacific Fighters' install...I can't even see the altitude gauge in my game, pleasant photo of your gal too wink
Last night I tried flying the Mustang again, it flopped around like a fish out of water, best speed I could get level was around 380mph....I quickly went back to my Corsair, it reminded me why I gave up on the 51. Sad.

My game should arrive 8-1-12, I'll install it on my old box....try to get a quick view of the P-51, see how it flies, get a download for the rockets, if I need it, and see if it's worth the 1500.
Then order the parts and begin slapping it together.

I'm gettin' excited....

I'll take that Win7 disc for a hundred bucks Murph.....that's a deal.
I saw it on NewEgg for $180. but I'm sure if I look around I can get better deals.
Here's my quick shopping list so far;

**** Win7 OS

**** Memory. 16GB -- runs everything. Need to match the system?

----------------------------
CORSAIR Professional Series HX850 (CMPSU-850HX) 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
$175.
-$15 promo, so I went a little high.
--------------------------------
Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 BX80623I52500K
$220.
----------------------------------
ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
$240.

The ASUS model of lower quality, is just a little less, or am I wasting my money on this one?
---------------------------------
COOLER MASTER HAF 932 Advanced RC-932-KKN5-GP Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case with USB 3.0, Black Interior and Four Fans-1x 230mm front RED LED fan, 1x 140mm rear fan, 1x 230mm top fan, and 1x 230mm side fan
$140 aft rebate.
-----------------------------
ASUS 24X DVD Burner - Bulk 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM Black SATA Model DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS - OEM
$19

About the only thing I can use from the old box is my old DVD Player.
So I'll have two, one to burn from the other.
The above new one, looks good to me.
----------------------------
Monitor;

SAMSUNG B350 Series S24B350HL Transparent Red 23.6" 2ms GTG HDMI Widescreen LED Monitor 250 cd/m2 DCR Mega 8 (1000:1)
$180
---------------------------
The better card is just a little more, and it has 4GBs;

EVGA 02G-P4-2678-KR GeForce GTX 670 FTW 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
$420

EVGA 04G-P4-2673-KR GeForce GTX 670 Superclocked+ w/Backplate 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
$470
---------------------------

I'm sure I can get some better prices when it comes to actually ordering the parts, this is a general idea.
And I'm a beginner at this, only built one prior to this....8 years ago.
Any thoughts?

Newegg has Win7 Pro for $120 this weekend. Newegg Weekend Deals

Check if the CPU is a "boxed" version, otherwise you want to add a cooler. A CM Hyper 212+ is a good bang-for-buck cooler, otherwise check the FrostyTech site. The after market coolers allow you to overclock the CPU without seeing the temperature rise much and still be quiet.

Did you compare the other HAF cases to the 932? The XM is comparable in price, and the 922 and 912plus are lower in price. (not trying to stop you from getting a great case. smile )

My memory advice in general is; get memory tested/certified with tote motherboard, or go one grade faster. (1600->1800)

The motherboard it's a personal choice, i.e. do you need the extra features.

Thank you very much for the time and input JAMF. I really appreciate it.

I just ordered the WIN7 Professional for $120.....tks for the headsup!
My first 'part'....lol....XP is getting old, I heard MS is no longer going to support it with their security essentials, which I really like.

I have no where to go for help to 'tune' this right.
I don't have the 'extra' money....but I don't want to skimp on something and slow it all down.
So any, and all, help would be appreciated.
I'll look at the HAF cases now, I wanted one big enough to fit all the parts, and keep them cool, didn't want to get a smaller case that heats up, or won't fit the extra fan or cooling "thing-me's". I just want to make sure the MB fits in, with enough cooling. I checked the other boxes, they don't say how many USB ports they have, I need lots, I have the pedals throttle, stick.....etc.... At this point, 20 bucks doesn't matter much.
Right now, that's my problem with my old case...the LIAN-PC65, won't take the new MB's.
That's why I need some advice..... wink

I don't know what fit's together.

I'm really worried about the RAM....I'm not sure what would go with the MB.
I know 16GB's is about right for the amount...the speed, type, and brand, I'm not sure of.
I don't care about the 'extra's on the MB...just don't want to short my board.
I won't be adding to this one....the wife is rolling her eyes already...lol.....

Murphy.

I apparently am going to need the 212;

Which one;

COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R2 Continuous Direct Contact 120mm Sleeve CPU Cooler Compatible with latest Intel 2011/1366/1155 and AMD FM1/AM3+
$35.

or, the cheaper one;

COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler Compatible Intel Core i5 & Intel Core i7
$20.

I've already bought everything else........ wink
Couldn't get the 'boxed' version of the I5 Sandy Bridge....
Got this one instead;

You can save money and just get the 212+... , but the linked CPU product details states "Heatsink and Fan included", so it would be the boxed, not the tray version!?

Yep. smile The 212 keeps the CPU cooler than the Intel at a much lower sound level. The difference between the Plus and the Evo is 1 degree C and 3dB in favour of the Evo.
Manufacturer's page specifications

The 3570K is the newer generation CPU on a 22nm lithography process against 32nm, using less power.

If you didn't order some cooling paste (and don't have some, or a colleague's/friend's), you better get some. I don't remember if the heatsink of the Intel cooler had one of those pad-thingies applied, but they are better replaced by a paste.

Yes, I remember they had the processor pasted...but I wiped it off and used the off brand...Artic Silver I believe.
So I just ordered that and the cleaner you suggested.....

....and 'another' Seagate HD....1 more TB.
I'm going to put the OS on one HD and the games on the other.
Is that going to be difficult?
