Hey all,

I am postong on behalf of Eugene and myself as we are experienceing the same FPS drops in our games..

Now we first Noticed it in Arma2:OA running some missions..At first the FPS are fine and normal I get around 38 (Because of the 3D)
and Eugene is getting 40-50FPS.. But after about an hour the FPS Tank down into the teens sometimes low single digits..

WE had checked the DX under DXDiag and that reports NO Problems Also neither one of Our PC's are Overheating or the like..

Now I just had the FPS DRop in WoW after bout an hour or so into the low teens?? Now because I run the nVidia 3D Vision 3D Glasses I am limited in FPS by my Refresh rate wich is 75hz so I get steady in most games 37.5 FPS Always..

I was in WoW getting low single digits to teens same with Arma2:OA.. IT starts off fine and then blam the FPS Tank?? Now he has XP and it is basically a fresh install of XP and Arma2:oa. My System is about a 3 month old install but it should not be any install or issues of the like?? I am updated with all my drivers and such so I doubt it is an driver problem??

WE have checked our DX Eugene even ran the update to make sure it was ok still the same problem..Now neither one of our PC's are overheating in any way in fact they are running normally and not even under a full load whilst gaming..

Now I am thinking we both have some sort of Bug or similar causing the slowdowns.. I have run MSE and Malware bytes and even hijack this my PC comes back Clean???

We did have a BETA installed for Arma 2 94444 and uninstalled that and we thought that was the fault but it has to be something deeper as it happened in more then 1 game.. IT happened to me in Wow just 15 mins ago the FPS where fine and after about an hour the FPS tanked to the low teens..

If anyone has some idea what could possibly be going on with Our PCs and this Strange FPS Bug I am all ears as I am out of ideas..

Drivers or GPU Throttling (GPUs can Throttle for heat or power drain/vdroop).

Still sounds like a heat issue to me. Test with a couple of programs, don't just trust speedfan. As hot as it's been, you see pc's running hotter than normal since most houses are warmer than normal.
Open up the cases and give them a good cleaning.

I see your specs, but how much memory does the other machine have?

well i can run some heat checks will run furmark and intelburn test will report back in a bit..

the Other PC is a Socket 1155 G620 with 4gm Ram awin XP with a Asus P8Z68-V Pro mobo..

My House Is Climate controlled and Ambient Room Temp is Year round 70-72F.. The PC is Clean just cleaned it out about a month ago...

EDIT: I just Ran Furmark at it says my GPU is Throttled by 745mhz and is running at 50Mhz ??

OK I think I found My Problem the GP is being Throttled what would cause that and how can I correct it.

what is the make and model of your GPU?

they only throttle to save power, if they are over heating, or if the power levels drop.

run open case, make sure the fans are all working on the GPU, make sure the heatsink isnt loose. check power levels.

I have 2 eVGA 480GTX GPU's. all the fans are working..heatsink does not appear to be loose..I also have a 1100W PSU??

I did try declocking it to 775mhz and that seemed to fix the throttling but I always ran it at 800mhz why now is that a problem??

also on Eugenes PC he is NOT Overclocked??

i dont know about SLI'd 480s, The Latest nVidia /eVGA card I have is a 8800 GTS/640MB.

It does sound like a Power Saving Feature (downclocking to 50Mhz or 405Mhz)

nVidia added Newer Power Profiles to the Drivers recently (a few builds back,). The Power Saving has been present for a while though.

Adaptive Power Management in the NV Control panel will enable cards that arent in 3d Mode to drop to 50MHz,

Changing the Clock changed the power profile i guess.

I know with AMD's Drivers, there a bug that some Flash Ads and Videos on websites force the GPU to stay in desktop mode, or revert back to desktop mode in the middle of a Game.

well I set mine as well as Eugenes Adaptive power setting to Prefer Maximum performance not sure why it would still declock the GPU's??

While Now I can get to 797 Mhz on the GPU if I put it too 800 it declocks it 4mhz wierd?? I may try reverting to the 275.33 drivers..

it is just wierd I had the 300 series drivers for some time now and it this declocking anomoly just reared its head recently??

could be dirty power, the GPU isnt getting enough clean juice to maintain stability.

or it could be a driver issue, as google says.

when the AC units kick on power levels drop... especially in heavily populated areas.

on hot days, my UPS says my input voltage is 108 during mid-day, its supposed to be 120v, dipping no lower than 110, before causing damage, lucky for my my UPS is set to max sensitivity, so even a 4v drop it switches to battery.

right now, my neighbors AC Fan kicked on, and my input dropped from 111v to 108, then went back up to 110.
