News like that makes me behave like a five year old on christmas eve. Checking 7950 prices now although I was sure I'd skip this GPU generation.

Yeah definitely good news, hopefully Nvidia will also have to drop prices now finally which they haven't yet since 680/670 release... I love a good price war, and could only wish these prices drop as fast as SSD prices have the last 6 months

Makes me think of the next re-spin/tick-tock/generation. Should be around December, right?

*Cough*
Sorry to be a spoilsport, but I need to refer to this section from the link in the first posting:
"With all of that said however, as we’re in the middle of a product cycle with partners shipping custom cards, in practice AMD doesn’t have a great deal of control over final card pricing beyond what they charge partners for parts. So unofficially these prices have been in effect for some time since partners and stores have not been holding to AMD’s MSRPs. Indeed as of Friday evening the cheapest cards on Newegg are already below AMD’s official MSRPs, so today’s announcement mainly serves to bring attention to price movements that have already happened."
I'm not unhappy about that, provided this is valid for Europe as well, as I bought an HD7950 last month.

...Judging by the specs it is quite clear that Sapphire's newest Toxic Edition graphics card will easily end up the fastest single GPU graphics card that money can buy. The new Sapphire HD 7970 6GB Toxic Edition is based on AMD's Tahiti XT2 GPU that has been pushed even further ... XT2 is a new, updated (better binned) AMD GPU. Per the quote article, Sapphire is putting out a single GPU HD7970 running at stock 1200MHz (three stock speeds that the owner can pick from) with 6GB of memory also running faster than 6000MHz. Fudzilla thinks it will be the fastest single GPU card out. FWIW, my Sapphire HD7970 OC runs standard at 950 and 1000MHz (throw a switch on the card) but I currently run OC at 1100GHz without upping the voltage -- so, one might be able to OC the new 1200Mz card to over 1300MHz (some folks have already done that with the version I own -- on a card by card basis). The AMD GPUs in general, as sold, have a significant potential OC (card by card -- they all don't do it) because AMD was conservative with standard clocks. Nvidia basically sells the GTX670, 680 series at nearer the max OC the card will handle. So the potential OC varies by brand name and card version.

GHz edition has physical changes to the core, i know someone that works for AMD that confirmed it,
its not just a higher BIN,
its a higher BIN, Updated BIOS, and a tweaked ASIC.
