I have trackir and going throught the trainin mission to fly the A10. When I try and look down at the left or right consules to push buttons, I cannot get a good enough view even if I zoom in. (either to small to read or doesn't position right).

What is the best setup for this.

If I have to use the snap looks fine, but it only stays for a second before it reverts back to the normal view so I never get a chance to hit the right buttons.

What are the best keys that I could program into my hotas to view these consols and work with them.

Some of the listed ones, only zooms in on certain areas...I beleive some other areas will need to be viewed once I am fully trained

If you have TrackIR, you can fiddle with some files so that you TURN OFF the in-cockpit MFDs (to save FPS) then you make it so that the MFD images are placed on the bottom left and right of your screen, or the top of the lower screen for dual-monitor guys. Can't remember exactly how I did this now, but here is the ED forums thread on that topic I did a while back. Note that you will want to use Notepad++ for any .lua or any file editing.

You can also set it so that Keypad 0 turns on snap views (instead of CTRL+KP0, IIRC). Just fiddle with the in-game controls a bit.

Hope that helps!

Hi jack72,

hey - Ice how are you doing?

jack, I have some snap views programmed to my stick. And I use a TrackIR 5.

I use my throttle paddle switch as a shifter to get more functions. With this shifter I have secondary functions on my TMS and DMS switches for snap views:
Shift TMS Forward - Turn on/off snap views (RCntrl Num0)
Shift TMS Left - Left MFCD (Num4)
Shift TMS Down - Lower left side console (Num1)
Shift DMS Left - CDU View (Num2)
Shift DMS Down - Lower right side console (Num3) --- These last two may be switched, I always get them wrong the first time :-)
Shift DMS Right - Right MFCD (Num6)

I also Shift my Trim Switch to bring up these views - F1, Alt F1, F5 & F10.

Ice, I guess you can then place your Cougar MFDs over the screen then?

Hmmm, so firstly how do you get the in-game MFDs to sit in the corners and secondly, how do you get your Cougar MFDs to lay over the screen? I would need to take them on and off though.

Sorry to hijack your thread Jack72 smile

Mace, yes you can. The details of putting things on the screen should be on that thread. There are different ways of putting the MFDs over the screen... some people remove the bezels and make a "custom" MDF template which sits between the monitor and MFD. I just use some 3M double-sided tape (the foamy ones, not the really thin ones) and stick to the bezel. Sorry I can't be of any more help than this, I've not flown DCS A10 for a while now.

WC, I'm doing great, thanks. I feel really dirty "having fun" in FSX but it's a different scene and is quite enjoyable too!

The upside of having the MFDs on the screen CONSTANTLY is better SA. Even when working with just one monitor, it was easy with the MFDs always staring you in the face. I do the snap views for the radios, CDU, lights, etc., but never needed to for the MFDs.

I wonder - I'm just starting to use iControl (putting the MFCDs on the iPad)..and was wondering if blanking the displays in game would be beneficial to FPS (not that I'm really having any problem with them. Don't know if it would be worth trying or not..

Waiting anxiously for iControl to be integrated into DCS World install too..

Just a couple of screenshots of how it'll look in-game:

I think I gained a few FPS with the MFDs blanked, but this was with my HD 5770. Never really had problems with that one, but that was single-screen gaming biggrin Now I will put the screens on my bottom monitor for a clutter-free main screen!

The ED thread just said you have already got your MFDs in the corner but you don't say how you did that. Also, what is a .lua and where is that one stored?

With TrackIR and the consoles I set the sensitivities more aggressively downward so I can see everywhere. They don't have to be symmetrical. I also keep a zoom in/out handy on the joystick. With those I haven't had too much problem heads down. Also you learn switch placement eventually.

Apologies for the lack of info.

You create a .lua file in the /install directory/Config/MonitorSetup folder. For instance, make a "-Ice's 2MFCDs.lua" file. Then open it with Notepad++ and paste in the following lines:
Quote:
_ = function(p) return p; end;
name = _('IceTest1 Monitor 2 MFCDs');
Description = '1 Monitor 2 MFCDs on the left and right bottom corners of the screen';
Viewports =
{
Center =
{
x = 0;
y = 0;
width = screen.width;
height = screen.height;
viewDx = 0;
viewDy = 0;
aspect = 1.777777777777778;
}
}

LEFT_MFCD =
{
x = -10;
y = screen.height - 390;
width = 400;
height = 400;
}

RIGHT_MFCD =
{
x = screen.width - 390;
y = screen.height - 390;
width = 400;
height = 400;
}

UIMainView = Viewports.Center

Then go in the game and select that view settings in the display options somewhere... go to Setup -> System, then select the config on the Monitors dropdown.

With this, you can make a few "setups" and switch between them as needed for testing, though you have to exit the current mission to access the setup screen again.

**NOTE** the above settings was done with a 1920x1080 res monitor. Might be a bit off when using a different res.
