Whatever makes you happy procedure-wise -> it comes over time. But do the Cold Starts as often as you can, and learn when you need to wait and/or start over. Practice weapons reloading and refueling. Don't leave your ramp position until the tower gives clearance to taxi. Wait for take off clearance, Clarence.. Use your wingtip lights to let others know your status.

You will get familiar with the jet and come to know what is not switched right - after many Cold Starts. If you see a mission with a Warm Start slot you will find that not everything is on and you need to know what to do, fast.

Then there is:
Entering target coordinates into the CDU.
Setting the FPM Mode to Auto/Man depending upon the mission.
Triangulate a threat on the RWR.
Bring up MAVs, and the TGP if you have these.
Choose the MFCD for the SOI and set the SPI and broadcast it to all your Group ID buddies.
Learn the TAD.
Use SADL.
AND DSMS, however that works.

And not getting killed w/in ten minutes is helpful.

Sweet! Items 1,2 & 3 are now on my next "time to learn something new in the sim" list, realized just now I'm not comfy with any of those yet. Thanks!

Copy that Paul, but I am referring to flying the sim, not real life. So whatever gets him into the action fast, as I presume he is flying DCS A10 to go up and kill stuff, not to sit around on the tarmac for 20 minutes "because real pilots do the same thing."

He specifically asked in post 1 " I'm striving for realism and accuracy in the start up department." So that's what I'm giving him I didn't say he had to do it that way. When someone asks about what real procedures are that's what I post.

Position lights or anti collision lights?

(Real world) Any time you start engines on any aircraft you should have the position lights on. This lets ground crews and vehicles know that there are aircraft engines running. We can't hear very well anymore due to years of working around running aircraft...and have hearing protection on. wink Prior to taxi, turn on anti collision lights. Everyone knows you're ready to go now.

cheers

I hear strobes vary by squadron and aircraft. In civil flying it was strobes on only airborne and on the active runway. As far as I can suss, flashing positions on the ground, steady in the air. I have heard of setting them steady when in arming or similar bays not to distract ground crews at night.

I know it's not 100% realistic but I like using the taxi light as my ground movement status light. Lights in multiplayer can really distract and reduce fps. I think the coder got lazy and didn't set the values for them (apart from aiming), they are the default "spotlight values." So I turn on the taxi light 30 sec prior to movement and off when I stop movement. I feel it provides a good signal with minimal negative effects to others.

In a previous version of A10 I changed the light values so that the landing light was a bit of a long narrow, just as needed for landing and runway ops and made the taxi much shorter, dimmer, and wider so you can see while turning. I'm sure it's not 100% accurate but neither was the original coding.

WK,

Are the pos lights on steady or flash during start up? If steady, when do the pilots use flashing?
