To my fellow rotorheads:

In the past I used a slight deadzone and positive curvature of about 20 for the pedals, in order to be able to make very tiny adjustments. But today, I tried a negative curvature of about 10. While it takes a little getting used to, it improved maneuvring quite a bit. For instance, doing funnels seems now a lot easier.

So I was wondering, what curvature settings are you using? Does it even make sense to use negative curvature?

I'm curious. copter

I'm reluctant to even try it, because I have so much trouble already. I'm curious though how it improves things.

Well, I tried negative curvature for a short time in the Shark, then I went back to a positive curvature (only of about 10 iirc).

You usually want to keep control of the shark, so in my experience it works better to just make small adjustments. I also found that when using the pedals, the effects depend on how much collective you are pulling. When you want to turn faster, it might help to increase collective at the same time.

When using negative curvature, the rudder becomes more responsive too, but it becomes harder to make tiny adjustments, while the positive curvature helps with that. Independent of curvature, you should always get the full range of pedal deflection, so positive curvature seems more appropriate to me (this might also depend on the joystick/pedals used).

If you're having trouble with controlling the shark, definitly try higher (positive) curvatures.

i put a curve on my axis so i can keep the wartog in a straight line on the runway, instead of fishtailing all over the place.

i think i have different controls for different aircraft./

ie, DCS A-10C, Right Foot Forward Turns the Aircraft Right on ground and in the Air.

in BF3 and Other Chopper Games, I have it set to Right Foot Forward/Left Foot Back = Aircraft Turning Left. There's also a Curve so That Small Adjustments are Easier to make, and as I push pedal forward more, the effect increases.

Dont know why I fly choppers that way.

Maybe because then the rotation direction of the pedals matches the one of the helo? At least that's how it works with a twist stick. But it is just a matter of habit, and I don't even remember how I ended up with right foot forward makes aircraft turn right. As long as you're not flying real aircraft, you are free to setup your controls as you like after all.

i tried right foot forward to turn right, and it felt off after doing it the way i was for so long.

Instead using curves - just use this:
How to unchain the rudder from trim - solution

Hey Peter_P, thanks for that link (trim error building up in the rudder is a big peeve for me in BS2). However, every time I read it I get more confused. Is there a dummy's way to do this - scripting confuses the hell out of me?

PS - I have an X-52.

Please revisit the first post of this thread again: How to unchain the rudder from trim

I learned how to script it inside of DCS - so no need any more to write a script for your controller.
It is now a simple copy'n'paste job.

Just download attached Zip and read the Readme.txt.
