As if I needed another reason *not* to buy Windows 8... Let's see, the metro UI is like a speak and spell for toddlers, the Windows Media Center is no longer free but a pay option with less features (WMC autostart on logon has been removed), now I hear W8 doesn't run on overclocked CPUs? next they'll be telling us it doesn't support mouse interface, just touch screen monitors and Kindle motion control I love Windows 7 and plan to skip Windows 8 like I did Vista, Microsoft's idiot product managers are doing their best to make Windows 8 a failure from what I can see.

Microsoft is stripping the OS to Run on Tablet PCs and ARM Chips. ... no Surprise more and more Power Features are getting cut left and right.. Shoot the entire startup / shutdown sequence has been re-done so that its quicker, because all the device drivers are stored in a hibernation file, so they dont need to be reloaded on every boot up. Another move to make it so it runs better on hardware that wont be upgraded or changed (Tablets/Phones/MiniBooks). they should Rename it to Windows Touch or something, because the root code is similar to Windows 7, Re-Compiled without Start Menu Code, Support for CPU Modules, Metro UI, etc. Its not a "NEW" Windows, its a stripped Windows 7. My Experience with Windows 8 Beta and watching the Hardware sensor Readouts, is that the OS automatically adjusts both MP and FSB depending on Workload and power features of the mainboard/cpu.... so you may not be able to OC because the OS wants complete control of the CPU Clocks. If you only use a PC for Email, Web, and whatever, it might be OK, but I do not see how I was going to fit all the tiles for my Applications I use across that UI, the "desktop" is stripped in functionality, as well as the control panel. I get the feeling that I'm using a Mobile/Compact OS on my PC when i use it, just because so many things are not there, or simplified. I think Windows 8 would be good for Disabled Users, like my dad, who has limited mobility and field of vision after his stroke. so a Touch Screen menu w/ Large Tiles is better than Win 7 (even with Icon size set to large and the "Handicap" Mode enabled). bringing up a large back light touch screen keyboard will be easier for him to see/type than trying to look down at a keyboard and pressing the keys. Using the touch screen will help with motor control (touch screen games, ie Solitaire (spider, casino, whatever), other "kids" touch games, and other Applications of that nature. As for the increase in performance of CPU Modules over Win 7, I see a small, .02 increase in Cinebench Single Core (which if core scaling was perfect and all cores performed the same would equal .16 increase on a 8Core, but the cores dont scale perfect, and you only get .08 increase). running fresh updated installs of Both Win7 and Win8. I need to re-run these tests with the retail version. Cant really test any games... last time I checked there wasnt any AMD drivers that allow me to use eyefinity in Win8. Also Boot time and Memory usage is considerably less., but duh, your loading an O/S that's been stripped down. (and the start up sequence has been extensively modified.)

Wow, what does that price signal?
I thought I got a bargain basement price when I preordered Win7 for $80. I paid $30 flat for Win 7 Pro 64bit. Seems like MS is going what they did with Win 7, selling it for cheap. They probably want everyone to jump to Win 8 so they can force their new programs/Win 8 down our throats. To me, the UI looks horrible in Win 8. That alone will ensure I don't switch. But we all will have to eventually.

... last time I checked there wasnt any AMD drivers that allow me to use eyefinity in Win8... FWIW, I was using Eyefinity with Windows 8. Included Skyrim, desktop -- don't remember what else for sure -- as I quit fairly soon (a week or two) both times I tried Windows 8 on my main machine. Interesting thought that Windows 8 is almost literally a "stripped" Windows 7 -- rather than a significantly improved OS. If enough "insider reports" indicate that's true, then another reason to "pass". Because I like to buy new stuff every so often, I hope it does have some benefits (e.g. is supposed to run very slightly faster than Windows 7 with AMD Bulldozer and Piledriver CPUs in with some threaded software). I would be likely to spend the $40 to try it out and see for myself.

I havent checked Windows 8 since Prolly march, there might be drivers now though, but I'd have to wipe the partition and re-install again.
