I personally think 1C is in more trouble than they realise, at least with the Western market. I assume that many of you like myself bought Cliffs of Dover because of IL-2. With that customer reputation shattered, I can't see how anyone would be eager to buy into the next game / expansion / whatever they end up calling it when the current one is still effectively a beta.
The recent beta patch (if it can even be called that) has shown that the dev team is just spinning their wheels and not really getting anywhere with what I suspect is a terrible codebase. Its unheard of that a codebase gets rewritten for a patch, especially for a traditional game that has no subscription model or other form of income short of a corporation such as 1C keeping the cash flowing from their other subsidiaries which is probably the case here. Sure there are some slight FPS improvements here and there and thats to be expected with code optimisation, but they just can't seem to be able to get ontop of the bugs. Some bugs get fixed, new ones appear, some old bugs continue to appear in each build. They have been taking one step forward in some areas with each patch, but then take a step back in others whether its stability or new bugs.
This is just on a technical level mind you. Not one thing has been done about the game's complete lack of immersion into the Battle of Britain theatre. Sure there's a mission editor for user missions, but why does that excuse 1C for not developing some proper campaigns or a dynamic battle generator. The fact of the matter is that Cliffs of Dover's missions just plain suck compared to RoF or DCS which have much better offerings. I think they owe us that along with the technical fixes.
