People cant see the wood for the trees

Where is it going? with all the bugs and problems people seem to forget that even if all these are fixed we are still left with a flawed online/offline concept and limited servers/netcode(just ask ATAG's Bliss), with no more content and no COOP's COD is going nowhere fast, were going to be stuck with online airquake with no chance of online wars or sqds being involved.

With only about 50 people worldwide playing COD most nights, what happens when BOM is released?

Without a radical change in concept the series is still going to fundamentally flawed and limited.

Your thoughts?

Its just a game to me, to while away a few hours when I have nothing important to do, not my life so I will just move along if it fails. A shame if it does fail, but it won't be the last disappointment in my life I'm sure. smile
Some people seem obsessed with it and thats not healthy. Take it from someone who at one stage was flying il2 70-80 hours a week... wink

As we all know BOM -or whatever this upcoming announcement decides that its going to be called- depends on the CLoD engine being fixed.
If this is done then there are plenty of players waiting in the wings to fly the BoB, regardless of the popularity of 'BoM'. If it is not fixed for whatever reason then CoD will trundle along as it is now until an alternative becomes available, and BoM will become a sad footnote to a great series.

Agreed Uther, i used to fly online as my main hobby, but that was a about 2 years back, futher back than that i used to fly about the same amount of time as say in VEF IL2, good times though.
Now im hardly flying at all, maybe 3 hours a week, prob less.

I honestly don't care anymore.. if it becomes what we were all led to believe, great..
If it dies a death, not bothered, there are so many other games that actualy work I can play.. they may not be perfect, but at least they work!

Then again, I am not sure it will ever get the numbers that il2 had.Even RoF, which works perfectly on my computer (after 3 years) and is a very accomplished sim, only ever has under 100 people online in the whole world, and very few servers.
As its a free to play game, I am stunned it doesn't have 1000's of players online at this point.

I personally think 1C is in more trouble than they realise, at least with the Western market. I assume that many of you like myself bought Cliffs of Dover because of IL-2. With that customer reputation shattered, I can't see how anyone would be eager to buy into the next game / expansion / whatever they end up calling it when the current one is still effectively a beta.

The recent beta patch (if it can even be called that) has shown that the dev team is just spinning their wheels and not really getting anywhere with what I suspect is a terrible codebase. Its unheard of that a codebase gets rewritten for a patch, especially for a traditional game that has no subscription model or other form of income short of a corporation such as 1C keeping the cash flowing from their other subsidiaries which is probably the case here. Sure there are some slight FPS improvements here and there and thats to be expected with code optimisation, but they just can't seem to be able to get ontop of the bugs. Some bugs get fixed, new ones appear, some old bugs continue to appear in each build. They have been taking one step forward in some areas with each patch, but then take a step back in others whether its stability or new bugs.

This is just on a technical level mind you. Not one thing has been done about the game's complete lack of immersion into the Battle of Britain theatre. Sure there's a mission editor for user missions, but why does that excuse 1C for not developing some proper campaigns or a dynamic battle generator. The fact of the matter is that Cliffs of Dover's missions just plain suck compared to RoF or DCS which have much better offerings. I think they owe us that along with the technical fixes.

I foresee that a lot of people will go to War Thunder. It's closed beta and already are 500 people online.

Does anyone actually still believe in the "complete graphic rewrite" anymore? were 9 months on from the last official patch, 2 beta patches and has anything really changed for the better?
