Been playing GR:FS on PS3 with an EagleEye (the PC version seems like a disaster) and I am getting quite bored with the quasi-run n gun gameplay (plus the maps are tiny)and I'm looking for something along the lines of the original GR. I am in an organized clan for GRFS but as with consoles my squad is most likely moving to DUST. With all the buzz surrounding ARMA2 and the DAYz mod I decided to try the free version. To my surprise I think I have found what I'm looking for. I'm going to buy ARMA2 CO this week (hopefully on sale as I am short on cash at the moment) and had some questions regarding O.N.E. Is it a Clan? or just a place to go for multi-player? Is it organized? is there training. Can someone clarify for me before I take the leap.

Oh and one more question.... Should I get the DLC's... are they worth it with all the mods out there?

Cheers,

ONE is basicly a mod pack that includes stuff needed to play on the SimHQ server (apart from the maps). SimHQ has 2 arma2 nights/mornings, monday night at i think 8EST .. or 1am current UK time .. and thursday night/morning at the same time. Its quazzie serious, theres no perm ranks and you can take any role you like (unless the poor bloke who took squad leads wants you somewhere else) but run n gun is a strict no no (unless your the only one left alive!) and you have to follow your team leaders orders, who in turn has to follow the squad leaders orders etc etc. Training is "on the job" so to speak, but the more you know before hand the easier it is smile

As for DLCs, the BAF one is well worth it. You can still use the content in missions (although with low rez textures) even you dont have em so you can always pick them up at a later date if you want to.

Thanks for the clarification Meat. This sounds great and at the level i would be comfortable with for now!

I'll join/sign up after I buy the game with the BAF DLC (keeping my fingers crossed for a $15 sale this week) on your reco and after i have had some time with the SP training and the reading materials to get up to speed.

A few more questions:

Are these ARMA nights manditory? I would probably only be able to do one night a week.

Is ONE compatible with ACE2?

What exactly is in the ONE package as far as MODS go?

Ok last question.... I heard it's easier to apply mods to a NON-STEAM version so is that what I should buy? BI's site has a 25% sale on now.

I hope to see you online soon.

Thanks Meat,

I didn't see any Weapon Mods included in ONE. Are the weapons just the standard ones?

I was just playing ARMA2Free and was having trouble getting my TrackIR working well. I'm finding it hard to Aim. Do I need to turn of mouse look and Map everything to the TiR? Not sure if you have a TiR but maybe you know of a good solution.

Thanks for all your help and patience with me while I get up to speed with ARMA2.

Cheers,

Hellmann; I use TIR in ARMA. my TIR only turns my head (view). Body turn (and aiming) is still controlled by the mouse. I never tried to map TIR to mouse aiming functions but I will guess TIR will not provide the precision and stability necessary for longer range aiming.
I will add this, you will not find a nicer bunch of people than the crew here at SimHQ when it comes to friendly multi-play.
I admit my bias, but OFP/ARMA series has no equal, IMHO. winner

Heya Shadow,

How do you center the TiR? f12? I thought it was already mapped. How is your setup mapped? I'm still waiting for the july 4th sale like last year.

I also am looking for Joystick setups for flying. How is the flight model? I have an x52 Hotas or the simpler Saitek Aviator.

I look forwards to playing with you

Hellmann: I have a button mapped to my x-52 pro to center TIR. LAlt-0 I think. I don't use any F keys because they are reserved in ARMA. The flight models are ok and what you would expect in a FPS designed for infantry ops. Considerably simplified as compared to a realistic flight sim.
Hope to see you in a mission pre-brief soon.

I was referring to the centering in ARMA2.

I think i'll use the Aviator for flight ops as my x52 is on a make-shift cockpit and my desktop will get a tad crowded.

I was too. When I press my "centering button", TIR then uses that view position as the view when my head is centered. Or, when I refer to ARMA, I am talking about the current release I am playing, ARMA2:CO.

Sorry for the confusion... the mention of the X52 sort of threw my head into my fight-sim brain. tomcat

Which keys do you map your trackir to?
