There seems to be very little interest or posts in WarThunder {Gaijin) SimHQ forum. Is it because the majority of the forum users are on the beta test team? How's it testing boys?

I think there are a few of us in beta. It's still closed beta, so I can't talk about it much, but when it switches to open beta, I'll have a few things to say...

I agree there is another forum, but I want to hear input from people familiar with the IL-2 series.

Chivas, you should really not get any input or comments at all because an NDA has been agreed (and should rightly be honoured). I may or may not have been in closed beta for a few months.....So hypothetically speaking, I 'may or may not' have been consumed by an Existential crisis in which I'm not even sure if I exist....never mind this game of which thou hast spaken. zombie Søren Kierkegaard and simming do not mix. hahaha

Will be open soon enough anyways I would think, so people can judge for themselves.

*twiddles thumbs, 'enigmatically' *

If you played il2 1946 you will feel like at home flying War Thunder FM and DM wise (the fm and dm is constantly getting better with every patch). I used to play il2 1946 fanaticaly for like 5 years in the HL dogfight servers and in the online wars, and i'm very happy with War Thunder.

There will be a mode called 'World War' which is a big secret among Gaijin and is supposed to blow out of the sky every other sim competition currently because it will allow people to fly planes, ships and tanks all at once on a massive territory with many people on dynamic battlefield but not much info is available on it right now.

If you played on Hyperlobby on dogfight servers you will feel like at home also, because there is an option for instant combat that feels like the dogfight servers from HL.

There is co-op up to 20 people for those who like to fly together.(which involves a dynamic map, something like the gennadich server from il2).

The game is beautiful, it has the best graphics in any sim to date, and is very well coded. On my 5 year old PC i run it with 40 fps on medium settings and it still looks better than anything i played.

And that is only small portion of what you can experience in War Thunder.

All in all this sim (if you call il2 1946 a sim, then this is also a sim) is going to be a massive success, it already is as fun as il2 1946 and most of all don't forget that currently it's only a closed beta. I can't imagine how good will be the final product.

(all this info is available on the main site btw wink )

I'd said in a previous thread that if this game was anything like IL2 1946 I'd be more than happy to play it.. glad you are confirming that smile
I miss those days on HL, playing on co-ops and online wars, loved it.
I'd mentioned previously about going back to IL2 as CLoD just seems to be completely broken, but the thought of sorting out all the different modded versions again just leaves me cold.. I'm hoping that war thunder can fill that gap in my need for WWII aviation.

I love posts like the above, gives you much credibility by performing a hit and run tactic.

It's okay Nuggetx.

When people get to try it out and find out that the battles aren't over large areas and are actually quite concentrated by game design, that there aren't boats and tanks to drive currently, that there aren't many people (32 people max) on each map, and that they are limited to a single anemic aircraft until they level up so many people will be ooing and awwing over it.

Oh, and the external view that has a gunsight is very sim like too.

The only thing that War Thunder and Il-1946 have in common are parts of the FM.

Did you fly on Hyperlobby DF servers? 99% of servers had 2 airfields and people would dogfight somewhere in the middle. It's the same here, and the maps were the same size also if not some were smaller.

Because this is a flight sim first, boats and tanks will come later.

That's only instant mode, World war will be bigger.

In HL il2 online wars you didn't had a choice of plane at all. You had 1 plane for current year and side and you had to fly it for weeks and everyone liked it.

You can turn it off.

They've always said 32 players max, regardless of which mode is played.

Yes, I did play DF servers and the ones I played on had multiple airfields with action at them.

In Il2 wars, I would get another plane as the war progressed. Not so much for WarThunder, you need XPs.

Also, I could go into a DF server and choose from several planes which one I wanted to use. Definitely not so with War Thunder.

Nope, i'd give you a quote but that would be NDA breach because it's on closed beta forum.

It's the same but in different form.

Same here once you have the planes.

It's like this so bigger crowd will play it.

But... you have to level up to get the planes.

It's okay, you like Battlefield of Duty with planes.

I don't.

Aces High had the same thing for best planes. YOu had to have a streak of 15 or 20 kills to fly me 163 or 262 and some other.

Here atleast you won't loose them when you die like there.

You keep talking about those perk planes.

Except there are several other planes you can choose to use in Aces High. Not just the top of the chain.

Reverse is true about WarThunder, you get one plane at the bottom of the chain and have to work your way up.

I also don't see mention of more than 32 players on the CBT forum.

Seems proper to me. ME 262 in real war were not handed out to rookies. The pros were flying on them.
