Keep in mind that 1080p is hardly necessary for most. If you're just going to put it up on youtube, there's not much point going to that extreme. That said, I've seen my avermedia card for under $100 sometimes ($85 when I got mine). Basic, but does the job. $12 for new, but older version, Sony Vegas $20 HDMI splitter $14 for a couple of Amazon basic HDMI cables.
You can get into this a lot cheaper if you've got a pc near by. Once the price on these set top units comes down, I can see moving to it for convenience, they do make a nice package. Until then though, just too pricey.

i was recording 480i, inverse telecining the Video back to progressive frames, and resizing back to 16:9 format and exporting to WMV, which looked better than any HD videos uploaded to youtube at the time (2004ish), in 2006 I upgraded from teh ATI all in wonder to the Intensity pro and havent looked back,.

I can vouch for the Hauppauge HD PVR boxes. Good product if you don't want to install a card in your PC.

Cool... was looking at that product... but only component input? Is there no HD capture device that captures via HDMI... HDMI from the 360 to the device, HDMI from the device to the TV?
thx

I think Local Best Buy had Hauppauge HD Box $20 cheaper than New Egg (rare),

thx I have My Intensity Pro Setup that way, as long as you dont access Movies and stuff on the dashboard that have 5c, HDMI will work fine. HDMI from Xbox360 to HDMI Input, HDMI Out to LCD Screen. Boot Xbox, Open BlackMagic's Software, Move from center screen to the side monitor so I can keep an eye on it, switch input of center monitor from DVI to HDMI.

Intensity Shuttle?
There's 2 of them, the Regular USB 3.0 and the Extreme/ThunderBolt version..
USB 3.0 Version can record 8 audio channels.

should be easy to use, i know a lot of people that use this or Internal Card w/ the same chip. Most of them were using the Intensity Pro prior to moving to the Haupauge HD PVR,
The main reason they moved was because BlackMagic keeps changing settings with every driver/firmware update, so they'd spend more time getting the recording stable again.
And mobility of the External Unit.
