Looks like it's going to have to wait for Ubisuck to get off there asses and fix this thing... not just with me, but many... SP campaign crashes every 3 to 5 mins, and never saves. MP seems to work better but more action shooter then tactical shooter... sure it could be played in a tactical way, but others don't... so if you were waiting for my review or an opinion... as of now I'm shelfing it, till it see's a few patches... My recommendation... as of right now... don't waste your money... either wait for the fixes, wait for a sale, or move on.
and most likely, it will be TOO late, by the time they fix it too get a review out...
NOW, if your one of the few lucky ones and the game worked great for you... by all means, if you want to review it for us, let me know... go for it.
NEXT...

I've enjoyed it on 360. Anyone that expects it to be GR from 10 years ago will be disappointed, but they also need to do a reality check. Like Conviction, judged on its own merits it's a fun game. No pledging, praying and waiting required, just buy and play. On console at least.

Definitely doesn't look as good as Conviction, but then the art style of Conviction gives it an edge. The lighting is better in Conviction too. The sound is far better than any other GR game though, for what that's worth. GR always had horrible gun sounds.

WTF! What is the trick to join a friends coop game? Is there some magic required? same disc version can see him send an invite and access denied. He cant join me, I cant join him. So fu-kin frustrating ubisoft BS
All the people who have been saying that version 1.0's graphics look good and if you underclock your Nvidia card it doesn't crash are erm, well, they are right.
God****it I hate being wrong but when I am I'll admit it
Version 1.0 does look nice, none of that grainy shadow thing and I have not had the artifacting-freeze thing and have played for quite a while. Sometimes it is good to be wrong.
But, something has gone wrong somewhere along the line at Ubi's end to make it go so wrong but HOPEFULLY, it is fixable with next patches as it started out ok.
I already had MSI Afterburner installed and just lowered my memory clock from 2000 (apparently it should have been 4000?! Not sure why it wasn't) to 1800 with a swift move of a slider and that was it. I still don't like having to do that and Ubi should fix it but as an experiment I had to do it.

I've got it running fine, but it's got this really wierd pixellation on the screen, I'm gonna disable DX11 tessellation and see if it comes back. Other than that, I am very, very impressed. It's got a few nods to the OGR games -admittedly, not many- and it is probably one of the best games to represent movement during infantry combat. I love the suppression mechanic, I've never been shot at -unless you count getting accidentally peppered with bird shot during dove season- but that has to be a little closer to what it feels like. Closer than that blurry effect that BF3 gives you.
So far, I'm liking it. $50 well spent, and so glad I didn't get Spec Ops The Line.
EDIT: Oh, and I'm running a stock clocked MSi GTX 460 Cyclone.

of course you do, lol... you bash good games, and praise bad ones... go fiquer... thou I don't think it's a bad game myself, not much of a tactical experience, more of a slowed down action movie... fed down a path, engaging targets as they arrive to battle, reload, breath, move... repeat... all the tactical aspects seem to be cut scene, stand in the white circle to activate. lol
No, a good game... but nothing more, IMO... so know surprise in our difference of opinions. But we both have a right to them.

No, no. We both like the ArmA series, SWAT 4, all the R6 titles with the exception of Lockdown, we both agreed that Dragon Rising was a better tactical experience than Red River (to be fair, you liked RR a lot more than I did), and we both thought GRAW was better on PC. We also agree that MP is better on BF3 than MW3 and the opposite is true for single player.
I believe we disagree on very few games. On the few, we just disagree mightily.

I still haven't finished the campaign, but I'm having a blast with it. Far better than the last few games. Really enjoying how in most missions you can choose to evade or kill without notice rather than just go blasting. They finally gave us a wide variety of environments to play the game in again. We aren't just stuck in Mexico and urban environments. Missions have briefings, challenges to keep it fresh and they don't force a spec ops team to outright fight a war--they just deal with situations. That's how it should be. I can easily see a Rainbow Six game following suit. The coordinated kills are finally fun, unlike in Vegas, and it works well. It's even fun organizing them fully from the drone and working your team through an area quietly like that. I ran a mission last night where you go around taking out some artillery pieces. Kind of reminded me of the first mission in Summit Strike. No, not a big open map so I could choose where I wanted to go on my own, BUT I had a choice of quiet stealthy takedowns or full on confrontation fire fight.
I hope they get the pc version sorted out, it really is a fun game. I'll probably rebuy it on pc when it's on a Steam sale. I'm not sure if the pc gets the Artic Strike dlc on 7/3 or not, there hasn't been mention. That opens up a new MP mode, along with maps, called Stockade. No descriptions of it out there. Someone has also found evidence of some other game types, Takedown and Safehouse (no LMS mentioned). I think they should've put these out with the game release, but I'll still get the dlc as it comes out.

I'm actually starting to like the actual gameplay the more i get into it... if I could make it through all the lock ups, it might be worth a review, lol
Where did Ghost Lead go?
A typical in game incident, happening way too much... if they can fix the crashes, it might actually be a pretty good game... no OGR of course, but not CoD either.

Me too Magnum, it gets better the further I play and as I say my crashes have gone.
Worth trying Magnum, download MSI Afterburner and just reduce your memory clock by 100 and try that. I think it doesn't even have to be overclocked for it to crash. You just move a slider and click apply and then you can move it back with no problems.
Worth a try?

I just had my first crash, and it was in the menu, not actual gameplay. Weird.

OK, my review in 2 screens, after 20 plus attempts at the SP campaign, and about 15 attempts at MP....
SP... "Theres a good game hidden underneath all this CRAP!"
MP... "Actually pretty fun, if I could complete a game without a disconnect!"
lol... I'll revisit in a month or two... maybe.

Hey, if you want, I'll do it. I'm almost done with the SP campaign.
UBI's matchmaking service sucks gopher balls. Every time I try to use it, I keep thinking, "Games for Windows Live does this much easier with games that aren't as good."

Finished SP last night. Wasn't so sure about it at first, but as you get on in the missions, it ended up being the most fun SP campaign I've played in years. Not a sim, but it did have a Clancy feel---trained team and an interesting storyline. I found myself looking forward to finishing it so I can play it again with the unlocked equipment and concentrating on more of the challenges.

12 missions IIRC, of decent length. It would be nice to be able to hop in missions later at checkpoints to work on the challenges, but not that big a deal since the missions are pretty fun.

Yeah, MP is almost completely unplayable. I haven't been able to initiate a connection to server and can't even keep one, apparently.
SP only for the time being. Wow, what a mess.

I can play Guerilla mode solo. Cannot get anyone to join me. MP is still non-functional.
Mag, I'd say you're right. Save your money. Or get the 360 or PS3 version, which actually works I would imagine.

I tore myself away from the GRFS campaign to try a couple hours of multiplayer tonight ... LOVE IT!
I’m usually a multiplayer guy anyway, which says a lot for the SP campaign. The multiplayer has quite a learning curve though. Lots of tech and a REALLY busy hud. I thought the BF3 hud was busy until I tried GRFS.
I’ve been concentrating on the first gameplay mode called Conflict. Love the freedom of movement, cover system, prone position, evasive rolling maneuvers etc.
PFunk, from what I read on the internet, Guerrilla mode requires your UPlay friends to join you. So your friends couldn’t join you for some reason?

Yup, no problem. Thanks!
Here’s some random first day newbie MP footage of me sucking really bad since I’m experimenting and trying to figure out all the nuances of the game (might take a while to upload) ...
I’m hoping that a third party develops a proper server browser for this thing and that “Ubisuck” sorts out the rest of the problems you guys are having.

The good news: conflict is the least of the MP modes. Try Decoy and Siege. I hope someone will post when this thing gets patched (I'm looking at you Magnum ). I'd really like to see it on pc too. The SP alone is worth it, I want to see it in proper graphical detail. It's simply fun to go through. It's a shame that with 3 Ubisoft groups working on this that they still can't get it running right on pc a month after the console release. It's not like the 360 and pc are all that different.

I had cancelled my 360 pre-order after hating the multiplayer beta, but I just started playing the PC version today. Finished the first two missions so far with no issues whatsoever. (knock on wood) Game looks pretty decent to me, and plays ok. I think I like it better than I expected to so far.
Aside from ARMA, I think this is as close to a tactical shooter as we're going to get, seeing how Ground Branch is looking unlikely to get funded through Kickstarter.

I was able to get it going by lowering my resolution from 1900x1200 to 1680x1050 -
I guess certain nvidia cards have trouble playing the game in "HD" resolution... this at least is what it says in one of the many stickies on the ubisoft site.
