The Percentage of Hits in your pilots log is an average of all sorties you've been involved up till today. Speaking for myself there's day's I'd find it difficult to hit a barn from the inside, and day's I can do no wrong.

I average 14% with FFB, on a good day I'm up around 24%. We won't talk about the bad day's . . Thank God it's only a game.

In case I've been talking GREEK till now . . Lower segment of Workshop, second row from left, three down is Player Stats, click ON. Now everytime you are De-briefed. You'll be notified of your % of Hits
Also Bombs dropped or rockets hit

I've found definite proof that as your Burst size increases, your hit percentage decreases. It's always been true with Force Feedback, where your first 5 are on target, anything after that is just decorating the countryside

Try it with your X-52 . . short bursts only . . if I'm right your hit percentage will rise.

And suddenly your loadout is more than enough for a day's work

Edit: Without stats ON you have Nothing in your Pilot's Log . . . Guess I've had them ON for years

Wouldn't it also depend from the gun accuracy settings each one is using ?

Well I assume your trying to hit your target, that is the purpose as far as I know, if there's another I'm all ears

What Corsair means are the settings in "Workshops", where you can
set "Player guns" to "Normal" or "Strong" or "Strongest"; and also
there is a setting for main guns (not sure if that's only for AI),
which is "Accurate" or "Less accurate".

I don't need to know my hit percentage - the Kaiser gives me 1.000 rounds
to pester the enemy with, and they more than enough to kill 4 - 5 enemy
aircraft. Whatever percentage that is - it's lethal. Mmuahahahahahaaa!!!!

In Phase II there WAS a control in Workshop which allowed you to vary your bullet spread. However now I don't see it

Normal, strong, strongest is bullet power upon impact. I enjoy using Strongest, as that way the chips fly on impact

The Gun settings I always believed were for Everybody

Where when playing as the gunner in a 2-Seater

You would want the Main Guns of Scout to be Less Accurate. While yours More Accurate

But when You are attacking a 2 Seater you might want to make that rear Gun Less Accurate

Too my way of thinking Accuracy has nothing to do with bullet spread, it's like firing a rifle with a bent front sight. You might hit the outer ring of the target, while you're aiming at the bullseye

But the grouping will still be tight, off target but tight

That's as I see it, I could be wrong
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You learned gunnery in your Albatros by seeing what worked, and continued those methods

It won't work that way with a single gun

I see what you mean, Unc, and I have fired guns in my army days, and later at a gun range.
I know, how a badly centered gun shoots off-target.
But Pol explained it sometime back, that the lesser accuracy means a wider spread of bullets in OFF
(or I have misunderstood him completely).
Here I send you a screenprint of the "Workshop", with the accuaracy part marked red.
There you can adjust also the rear guns of 2-seaters.

But as I said before - I don't know for sure, if it only works for AI or also for the player.

My understanding of Gun Strength and Gun Accuracy matches Olhams. Gun Accuracy determined the spread of your bullets and Strength determined how hard they hit.

As for my hit percentage on a good day, it's probably abnormally high because I get in so close often before I open fire and even then I usually fire in short, controlled bursts to try to make sure each one counts. A good day is around 50%, give or take a few. A really good day is 60%. A bad day is in the low 40s.

As a rule, I try to avoid high deflection shots unless I absolutely have to try and get a hit to change his flight path because I'm in a losing situation.

Of course the above numbers only apply in a plane I am fairly well versed in flying. Sopwith Pup, Tripehound, SE5a. Put me in an unfamiliar plane and my 50% hit rate suddenly refers to how often my prop hits the ground without getting a real shot off...

The "Normal","Accurate" and "Less Accurate" settings in the workshop ( for front guns and rear guns ) apply to both your weapons and AI weapons. Since they increase or decrease dispersion, I would think they have an impact on the hit % unless you always shoot point blank.

You're a monster, Hellshade ar15

Means you should qualify for the Sharpshooter trait when you level up in OFFbase, which requires a 30% hit ratio or better but makes your squadmates respect your prowess behind the mgs. Maybe I should raise it to 40% minimum?

Hmm, cra_

I thought I was doing well in around 45% in my DRI, which I can handle quite deftly frown

With regards to OFF settings, when Bletchley and I posted our research on WORD documents on the old site, and Bletchley his Mods, to make it realistic we provided settings for each phase of the war. These couldn't jib with the OFF sim, but nevertheless, as you knew the dates, you could then go into OFF Workshop Settings and tweak. We recommended Player Flight Model as Realistic, and only for the DrI and the Bristol, did I recommend an easier and what I believed, to be a more realistic setting according to the some 50 hours of research into the DrI. I am sure JFM would also have volumes, a whole book of thoughts on this topic. We also recommended AI Gun Range Air depending on what part of the war you flew in. Easy to start, with it getting more difficult as the war went on. Main Guns and Rear guns were always recommended to be set at the Less Accurate. This precludes the 6 aircraft shot down in one mission scenario. If that's what you like, go for it. Again, Ground Gun Accuracy started the war as Easy, then by 1917 progression to Normal, and by 1918, especially for the Germans, Hard. Again, this was depending on the Mission. If you went after a Balloon in 1918, it's Hard for Allied and Axis. This setting affects you and the AI. All this is from memory, and it seems to be failing fast, however, I will look up this stuff somewhere on an ext. disc, and confirm.

Cheers,

Britisheh
