On Friday June 22nd a few pilots were in Eno's Firehouse running Operation Rampant Bear.

Very unfortunately, one of the Blue A-10C pilots took deliberate shots at several aircraft in their parking spots and killed or damaged these Clients as well as AI.

Because we cannot verify the name used by this pilot, the previous thread about the incident was taken down at my request.

---

What we did find out is that Client names and IDs are logged into the net-server.log file. It appears that this file is overwritten when the server is restarted - that is why we do not have the ID of yesterday's team killer.

It was pointed out by several folks that a Client sure can change their player name and be malicious. There is an idea to post team killer IDs - not player names - so anyone running Servman would be able to add those IDs to their list, as long as the net-server.log file holds evidence of a team kill - this needs investigation and prolly a good discussion; SimHQ may well have something to say here. Comments pro or con are welcome.

SimHQ does have something to say here.

Although I understand the TK concept and how it can affect/ruin one's game, SimHQ isn't the place to "call out" anyone in public. You were right in closing the last thread, and honestly if you hadn't, I would have. General discussions about "cheating" or TKs is okay to a point, but we're not going to allow actual name call-outs. Discussions with the server operator should be via PMs as to who you should ban or investigate.

cheers

Thanks, Weasel -
I appreciate your reply and understand about not calling out pilots.

cheers

If anyone sees tk activity on Eno's Firehouse then PM me or Eno and we will see to take care of it. We are moving forward with Servman.

I'm going to add this though - the player mentioned in the deleted thread is known for his destructive behavior - I received a message through DCS Forums this morning with an independent verification of the tk guy on a different server.

This kind of abuse really makes many of us angry.

Although I don't yet have this title I often wonder why anyone would bother to get what is not an arcade shooter, but a complicated flight sim and go on a server and team kill, I've seen it before of course but usually on fps games. I just don't get why anyone enjoys this kind of behavior or why you would risk losing the ability to play online from server bans which in some games covered by punkbuster could lead to being banned from a multitude of servers. I imagine some Dad coming home to find junior has been playing his A-10 sim online but because he can't fly it he resorts to just shooting people on the ground, and therefore gotten Dad banned from his favorite past time.

It has nothing to do with little kids ...

It's someone who gets a kick out of ticking you off.
It's someone who's bored and can TK you for entertainment (Reaction included) a lot sooner than he can reach enemies. As a bonus, you usually can't shoot back so it's easy and feels empowering.

I appreciate that Eno's does not have a password protected server. (thanks!) I am not in a squadron so it is hard to find a non-password protected server. I have been told the number one reason that people put a password on their server is that random idiot that ruins the experience for everyone else. Maybe by having a little peer pressure on the offending player it will show them that their actions have repercussions.

Just my $.02... Thanks again to Eno for not going to a password.

I have sent the involved squadron 2 emails on the matter but I'm not sure if it's a monitored email box... No response.

Looking over some of his activity on the team homepage he is active over there and I believe he even made a donation- though whether it was to a charity or just the squadron... No idea. I tried to get registered so i could post there but the process was frustrating and didn't work well for me.

I suggest you don't worry yourself about this. Once servman is installed, you just ban whoever. Like Sobek said, without definite proof, all you have is a witchunt. Servman will provide you with pretty strong evidence.
