I just read the interview with ROF developers, concerning the past present and future of this sim. An interesting comment was that the new Channel map was just "perfect for Spitfires and Messerschmidts." All right, he did add, "I can dream, can't I?" But still, why dream? They're the people making the sim. They can do anything they want. DCS added a P-51 to a jet sim. Just cause they wanted to. But don't stop at Spits and '109's. How about Thunderbolts? Razorback Jugs and B-17's, the early days of the 8TH Air Force. I'm even fooling myself into believing that its the whole reason for the map. You can't develope a WW1 sim , forever. Although you can certainly do it for a long time. When they've had enough, the Channel map is perfect for continuing on into other areas. I'm just imaging a Thunderbolt done with the same care and loving detail as the ROF airplanes have been given. Just thinking out loud. Like the man said. "I can dream, can't I?"

I hope the WW1 possibilities remain profitable for a while. However, I do look forward to the day they jump in the WW2 arena of flight sims.

Cliffs of dover has a better engine in many ways, especially for huge flights and lots of ground objects. 777 would have to redesign their engine to allow for much more AI in the game than is currently handled in ROF.
For example, in Cliffs of dover, 20 BF109's taking off to defend 15 ships in the sea against another 20 spitfires, something you will likely never see in ROF. Flights in ROF consist of maybe five planes total with maybe 15 planes in total on each mission along with maybe a few trains and other things, then when you get near their spawn point and they spawn in the game stutters, then your framerate drops significantly the more items they spawn in.
Cliffs may be very buggy but give it credit where credit is due, playing the desastersoft campaign where they've got dozens of static objects on airfields, vehicles driving around as well as 40+ planes and a bunch of ground objects, it's a great sight to see and it runs well for me even in cases like this.

Did somebody say "Korea"?

Oh yeah, I know its not happening any time, soon. There's still a lot of life left in ROF. Plenty more airplanes to build. I'm talking a ways down the road a bit. Just a few miles. Stop at the Zeppelin and make a right into World War Two. And Korea. Forget it. I've given up. Sounds like something that would be a major hit, and nobody wants to do it. Damn, I want to fly an F-86!

Did somebody say "Korea"? This is the biggest hole in fight sims IMHO.

With the PWCG flights consist of more than 5 aircraft. I've seen flights of 10+ on numerous occasions. I really don't know why there are so few aircraft in the sky with the regular beta career.

That's true but not always and sometimes the number of AI will actually cause the game to run in slow motion because your PC can't handle what's going on.

Yes I seek to destroy the game I've dumped hundreds of dollars into, what kind of idiotic idea is that?
Just stating popular opinion Jason, you and I both know that ROF can't handle very much in a mission without imploding. Mission makers have said it dozens of times and it's true.

2. We purposely keep the number of planes to a reasonable level so people with middle and lower end computers can play it. And no, there is no easy way we can have an adjustment for the number of planes in a flight. Everytime we up the amount of things going on we get letters. If Pat's campaign has more and that is what you want, then use his.
Not trying to tell how to program your career, but I do know many career/campaign engines have the ability to scale up if people want it. Speaking as a player who exclusively flies offline career mode, I'd think the number of planes in an individual flight could be slightly increased (at least to 6, for realism purposes, as that was something of a 1917-1918 standard, at least for the French) without a horrible impediment to performance. Beyond that, some sort of option for individual players to select the max flights allowed to generate in a missions, combined with the already existing ability to scale graphics settings would answer for both those who posess systems that can handle larger missions and those who do not.
