I just installed the new REX program. Have it set up correctly(i think), but it does not seem to load WX into FSX. Does REX override WX selected in the Sim or is there a "special" setting required?

My FSX weather is set to "User Defined." REX Essential takes a mintue or two to 'inject' weather into FSX after you generate your flight. Of course, you also have to have REX running in the background; the best thing to do is start REX and wait for it to gather data and process weather (it takes a long time now) before launching FSX. I wait until Essentials is ready and then I click the "Fly Now" tab in the Essentials program to start FSX.

The long load time has enticed me to turn off the REX Essential (REXE) weather engine. I use REXE's textures but let MS load real world weather or just select one of the REXE weather pre-sets.

I used to fly with FS's built-in "real weather" feature, but it doesn't hold a candle up to REX's. Much more accurate weather representation, transitions and winds at different altitudes. I just let it load while I do my flight preparations and it works great.
The end result is worth the wait !

Cheers

Nico

Yeah I hope they improve the REX Essential load time for weather, it takes quite a long time, but the weather it generates here in the PNW with cloud layers and haze is pretty amazing looking for FSX, so in the end I still find it worth the wait.

Open REX Essential before you check your emails and surf the web and check SimHQ forums. By the time you're done doing those, REX will be ready for you. wink

That's the best thing to do, start REX when you boot your PC and let it download while you're doing something else.

You only have to wait for the weather download to complete, once "interpolating" starts you can run FSX. If you want to have REX weather installed in FSX immediately right click on the weather avoidance radar window and click install weather.
