I impressed a Sergeant on field maneuvers. So when he couldn't find an MOS T (Regular soldier taking on secondary training), he decided he would give me the detail to guard the ammo. Out of 600 soldiers, I was one of 3 who was able to shower every night and sit in the shade, while everyone else was in full battle rattle with a 115 degree heat index. Even better, no fireguard and an extra hour of sleep a night. Then as the hours transitioned into my birthday the Marine Arty battery down at the next range sent a fire mission with a bunch of star shells, so it was kinda like having candles on a birthday cake!

It was a great 3 days.

How many can say that they had birthday candles in the sky?

Awesome man, In Team Spirit we had the pleasure of having a arty battery practice, it was way cool hearing them go over head. Yes thank you for your service,

When they were firing during the day they used solid shells, and since I wasn't in the manuevers, I could walk to the top of the ridge and watch them land in the field about 300-400 meters away. They were tossing dirt way up into the sky, I was like, this is awesome.

Even better was hanging with the First Sergeant and CSM. When the Lieutenants wanted to escape the Captain and Major, they came and hung with us too. Everyone hated me for my duty. LOL.

Yup, and extra hour of sleep and no fireguard equals 2 hours of extra sleep gold!
