We should have proceeded to an airfield defense at Lagnicourt, but then I saw the train passing nearby.
I have rarely ever seen them, cause usually you have other things to do and don't look out for them.
But today I couldn't resist, and took the risk to get a slating from the CO. Here are my pictures:

After you're done marveling at the detail, does it piss you off that you only have machine guns

Many times walking in the forest I'd say to myself, self "the things you see, when you're not carrying a gun"

Uncleal

I found an old OFF P2 custom mission called "Train Busters" written by PilotsDen that has a flight of camels attacking fully loaded German supplies trains along the Rhine River with Leprieur rockets and MG fire against waves of Dr1's.

See that's where we differ, If I see a train and have a rocket or bombs, I'm trying for the train

Because I know I can't change history, no matter how hard I wish

I hardly ever fly a craft with rockets, UncleAl - and with MGs I cannot damage the train very much.
Which is the best plane and squadron to choose, when I want to fly with rockets?

Can I just ask.. you are taking on a solid metal train and its carriages, with rockets that are only designed to puncture the skin of a ballon fabric and ignite the flammable gases within..
Do the Leprieur rockets in OFF actualy knock out trains?

You have to remember that the stock rockets in OFF, inherited from CFS3, are filled with HE capable of blowing up bridges and tanks and train engines.

To be realistic, when arming your aircraft with Leprieur rockets, you must have activate RAF_Louvert's Leprieur Rockets Mod which cuts way back on the explosive punch of the warhead. But of course in WW1, the 'powers that be' finally phased out the inaccurate rockets only when incendiary bullets were introduced on the Front for balloon busting.

Yes, I fully understand the composition of Leprieur rockets, that they only hold black powder in a cardboard tube with a wooden head etc..
And yes, accuracy was a big problem, the ignition sequence sometimes didn't work properly, that's why I asked the question, but I understand now that they are a legacy from CFS3 so that makes sense.. thanks for the info smile

The real Lepieur rocket were little more than overgrown bottle rockets fired electrically all 8 at once in close proximity to the balloon you shot full of holes with your machine gun, in the attempt to touch-off the gas air mixture sending the balloon down in flames

This method was due the unsatisfactory performance of the incendiary ammunition available then. They had the nasty habit of lighting off from engine heat, ruining many a pilot's day

As soon the incendiary ammo became more reliable the rockets vanished totally

I've read many reports of pilot's who would carry the extra weight of an upper wing mounted Lewis Gun Loaded with the self-igniting ammo when a balloon was known to be their target

Which didn't say much for the rockets

But our rockets are a CFS3 thing, they belong on a P47 in terms of accuracy, range, and destructive power. But they're great fun. We actually had a Sopwith Triplane in Phase II that fired Rockets Magically from her stomach

Infact if you loadout your Pup w/rockets,fly CFS3 QC Free Flight, British Fields England, Suttons Farm, Runway, Take-off and fly SW, within 2 minutes you'll reach the Thames, hang a right and follow the river West
The second small tributary on your right take it, as it features 4 Lovely Bridges. But if you'd rather a bigger target, stay on the Thames Proper, you can fly under the roadway of Tower Bridge, then shoot at Big Ben but normally that's only for disrespectful Yanks
