For your entertainment whilst you wait, here is a new Wings Over Flanders Fields movie, (Preview #3).



Note this is of course work in progress. The troops advancing are being improved as we speak more variety and positions/stances. Should be great.

Also whilst testing today WM took a couple of great screenshots when coming back from a long campaign mission - he saw the result of a real enemy mission that had just occurred whilst they were out out. The enemy mission was a bombing attack on his own home field ...

Downloading the video now but right up front I must say that I love the screenshots. The man goes out to fight a war and finds out that the war was just as busy at his home airfield! I love the bombed out buildings and blast marks not to mention the incredible blending of the terrain and track marks from vehicles. Incredible stuff gentlemen.

Ok - pretty fricking awesome stuff in Preview Movie #3. A few things of note:

A plane that was shot down actually begins to fall apart as the forces tear at it's already weakened wings. Looks great!

The blending of sky and ground seems exceptionally well done in certain scenes.

The shot where you see "the front" down below as a backdrop to an Allied scout - Camel? - looks just amazing. Wonderful details.

The underside of the top wing of the Fokker DVII from the players virtual cockpit point of view clearly has much sharper textures.

The AI splitting up to attack from multiple directions is simply wonderful! (unless you are in one of the two seaters, I suppose)

At the end where the AI pilots scan around the skies and each spot the player below them at different times is just awesome.

The attacking armor and infantry units during large scale ground combat is a great improvement over P3.

Keep up the great work Gentlemen.

Yes Hellshade WM got back to find his lovely home field trashed whilst he was out, and no way to pay back until tomorrow. On this occasion they dumped their bomb load and ran off some time before he got there.

As we say these are real full missions by opposing forces going on even when you are not there, across the front. It was also so in P3 but now much more so. The new AI have more of an impact on the events that unfold, the movie at the end gives a taste of one way this is so. More on that later. ...

The screenies are great! What a surprise, when you come back to this.

Must see the video again now. What I noticed first: not only do the cockpits
look super-realistic - the underside Lozenge also does now. No more blurry
pattern - rather the real thing!

Fantastic stuff Pol, and I love the musical score at the opening of the clip - really moving stuff.

So... we finally got the Little Green Men back (LGM)! Only took us what... fourteen years??

(Inside joke amongst us ancient Red Baron 3D folks... )

Great stuff! The new cockpits look dynamite. In the screenshots, I like how the bomb craters are still there and haven't faded away shortly after the attack. Very nice.

When I saw those men marching in No man's land, the name Somme come to my mind. Of course we would need thousands of those and multiple lines. But it's really great and it help the immersion.

Is there a 'projected' release date for WOFF, or is it just a 'wait till it's done' scenario?

I've just watched the clip again.. picking up more detail everytime I see it.
At times it's almost like watching scenes from a feature film, plus, enhanced by a fantastic score that sets the scene in a truly emotive way.. very well done!

I have to say (and already have over at CA) that the opportunity to hear Matt's full score is up there equal with any other aspect of WOFF I'm looking forward to. It's an absolutely integral part of the sim, even though one never hears it in-flight. One doesn't need to, it's already done its fabulous mood setting job.

Well done, Matt. And if I win the lottery you'll need to rescore it for full orchestra... Royal Philharmonic, London Symphony... take your pick. :grin:

Three teaser videos and cannot wait any longer for the release of WOFF. I am new to OFF3 and am wowed every time I fly the sim. Always something new and deep with immersion.

Thats how I got hooked on OFF. Everytime U " fly it " there is always something different. For example, U didnt see this or that . Nexttime something different happens. Complete immersion and u start worrying if your " pilot" will make it to the next mission.

Absolutely brilliant! OFF goes from strength to strength. So glad that no-mans land will once again feature actual movement. It's been missing from all WWI sims since RB II. That alone sets OFF apart from other sims; not to mention the great cockpit details, landscape, AI, range of flyable aeroplanes and immersive campaign.

OFF P3 was released after Pol produced eleven preview videos. We only have three so far.

So with that track record, we need eight more, Pol !!!

I'm quite amazed by the new work on display, but, as you say, it's the music that's the absolute hook. Matt Milne is an extremely talented writer, and I find it astonishing that his work hasn't been heard elsewhere and him contacted to do music for film production. As a (rubbish) musician, I know how hard it is to knock out a bangin' choon, but he seems to do it effortlessly, dammit!

I think it's because it's the most resonant part of the game.

To be sure the French and Americans are definitely in there (who knows we might even get the Belgians this time!), as you'll know if you've got HitR and OFF3.

I guess they wanted to give us a taste of the archetypal Flanders aerial fighting; I think they've done that well.

Pol - if you're reading: how on earth do you do these movies, technically speaking? I can hardly do a screen shot! And there you are, showing side views of Snipe lifting up/dropping down or whatever. I really haven't a clue how you get those clips.

Hi all,
Pol and Winder are aware that the recent previews are primarily allied aircraft shown.
Please bear in mind that these previews are shot during testing of other areas of WOFF, such as scenery, cockipts, AI and damage models.
It's just that at the time of shooting, allied aircraft were used.
We had over 4,000 skins released with phase 3 and there are many more ready for the WOFF release - but testing must come first.

Thanks for the response. My question was why there is so much footage or RFC/RNAS aircraft, not why there is so much footage of Allied aircraft.

This might come as a shock for those who live in Europe, or just who enjoy flying for the Dark Side

German Aircraft are only there to provide an enemy.

c'mon uncleal. german side is as historical accurate as the british and french and american side. maybe even more. btw. why a shock for those who live in europe? europe is germany?, so UK is in the USA, and france is also not europe anymore because of your freedom fries? or what is the purpose of this post?

there are just three promo vids out there yet, and the german side is as fully developed as any other side. just because you didn't see too many german AC yet (which shows that you actually didn't watch all vids, because there is also the german side present from the players view in the first two vids), it doesn't mean that they are neglected or something. please watch all three vids

Mostly because I happen to be flying and updating RFC craft recently, whilst making Preview 3. As Creaghorn rightly says go watch the other vids too - plenty more German craft there.

Keep in mind our team is much smaller than most other teams out there, we don't have media / marketing and others.

Oh I have been updating the US stuff recently so maybe that may appear later who knows

Just for a point of reference we probably have more German squads than any other in WOFF (178!) that's 100 German Bomber squads, plus 78 German fighter squads. We have 79 French squads. ALL fully historically researched flying from their historical bases across the years with the correct craft where possible changing, Aces coming and going, textures for most aces there swapping as they change aircraft or squads and so on - AND you can often choose to start not just in one chosen place or time for a squad but just about ANY period they existed there provided we have the aircraft for it.

(and of course all this combined with the fact our Front Lines actually moves which affects locations and ownership of course).

Unc, I sometimes can't make sense of your postings.

I am from Germany, and I doubt I can find any other WW1 sim anywhere,
which contains so many German aircraft, squadrons and aces.

It's okay, when some of the Americans fly mostly American squadrons, or the British fly British;
and for them, the German Luftstreitkräfte may only be there so they have an enemy to fight.
But what a detailed enemy.
Did you know that we have more than 3.400 skins in OFF?
And that the vast majority of individual skins is (of course) German - simply because the Germans
had allowance for individual skins.

Now, WOFF will not be a step back there. We will have even many more squadrons available.
On all sides.
Show me ANY other WW1 sim, that has all these huge amounts of historical details in it.
You won't find one.

Actually the Germans are player flyable in a deeply immersive and dynamic campaign, complete with scouts, two seaters, tons of historically accurate squadrons and researched paint schemes. They most certainly are not there only to be the enemy. Players are more than welcome to try flying for their side.

Did you not actually know that sir? Or were you simply stating your own personal preference of not wishing to fly them?

Let me spell it out another way: I saw very few French aircraft in the previews. This isn't a Central Powers versus Allied thing. It just seems to me that we (WW1 aviation enthusiasts?) frequently forget about the non-English-speaking contingent of the Allies.

I don't fly a Nieuport 28 or a SPAD and I'm not a role player, so the American Squadron ain't for me

In the beginning of Phase II I used to fly for the dark side. Then at the same time, I got a Trackir and discovered the Sopwith Triplane and never looked back

The enemy crack was just to light a fire under the obvious Germans who don't declare it

Doesn't matter if you say Berlin, Germany. Stutgartt, Duechland, Hunland whatever turns you on, or leave it blank

Ahh yes the Sopwith "Tripehound". Undoubtably my favorite plane as well sir. Great field of view. Incredible turning powers. While only retaining a single gun, it's ability to get on the tail of just about anything in the sky makes it lethal indeed provided ones gunnery skills are up to the task.

Did you see the cockpit pics of the WOFF triplane? What an incredible leap in graphic fidelity! I'll be running my first campaign from right there.

Plus the Phase II Tripe would magically fire rockets out it's stomach, realistic it wasn't, but FUN it was

Well, right now there are the Nieuport 11, Nieuport 16, Nieuport 17, Nieuport 24
and Nieuport 28 (although rather flown by the Americans); and the SPAD VII and SPAD XIII.
In WOFF there will at least be another, early fighter: the Morane Parasol.

But I'd agree, if we talked about 2seaters: the French should have 2 own ones at least.
Knowing the seriousness of the devs by now, and their long breath, I guess they will
be added some day - if not in WOFF, then maybe in an Add-on.

Why is flying for the central powers, flying for the dark side? Sorry, I don't get this kind of attitude. I love to fly all the planes from all the nations. I can identify myself with pilots from whatever nation and don't need to be from the very same for that (why should I , I have as much in common with a german soldier 100 years back, like a french etc.) Variety is the best and it seems that WOFF will be offering alot of it to us flightsimmers.

That "dark side" thing is from several Hollywood productions and comics;
it is not meant too seriously here. I am German and fly mostly German
(because I love flying the Albatros fighters more than any other craft),
but I also fly British or French campaigns occasionally. I will do even
more in WOFF, cause they often have great new airfields and structures.

I fly both German and Brit. I don't fly USA or French as I'm not keen on the Nieu or Spads..

As we do not have a dedicated media team or PR, and a very small team, most movie clips are taken whilst flying and testing, and we tend to choose Brit often for generic testing. There are many many
French squads in there etc, but yes with infinite time we'll have more aircraft in there, one day.. Saying that, in the picture thread we have tried to show more variety recently but yes most will tend to be British.
