I would like your opinions on which gaming headset I should purchase. I play alot of BF3, so surround sound is important so I don't get a knife in the back.

Logitech G930 (wireless) or G35 (wired) headsets are a great and inexpensive 7.1 surround sound choice.
I'm really happy with my G930 BF3 performance.

The general advice is to steer clear of headsets entirely and get a proper hi-fi/audiophile headphone, tack a ModMic on it, and get your surround effects through a sound card through binaural processing. Here's a good guide on what headphones to look at.What's your budget, and what games/sims (other than BF3) do you play? That's a major influence on what I can recommend you.

I like the Sennheiser range. If you don't mind $200 the PC360's are very good.

Budget is around $150. The other games I play are DCS A-10C and Skyrim.

Cool mic option! I've been using my Sennheiser HD580 headphones for the last 15 years (awesome sound) with a Zalman ZM1 clipon mic that works ok for gaming, but it would be really cool to have that sort of headset mic boom on my Sennheiser headphones, so will likely be checking out the modmic, I didn't know that existed.

Thankfully my nice Sennheisers have lasted since then. Nowadays with also using my PC for media center and watching TV on my PC, headphones are a nice way to be able to watch violent shows anytime of the day without worrying about inappropriate viewing for my young daughters or waiting to watch after they are off to bed. BTW I ordered that Modmic and will let you guys know how it compares with the Zalman mic I've been using for the last couple of years or some of you will be able to tell on Teamspeak.
