HEllo guys

Interesting forum - stumbled across here today.

I used to be a big fan of Gunship2000 - found it a simple sim to pick up. Now I'm looking for a more up to date helicopter sim and would welcome your opinion of what you like the most. Comanche gold seems to have a lot of fans on this forum, as does DCS Black Shark.

What I'm looking for is something that will be quickish to pick up - black Shark sounds a very good sim, but I've also been reading how difficult it is to pick up.

Any recommendations would be appreciated - perhaps there is something you've played that feels similar to an upgrade to gunship2000

Thanks!

It depends on what kind of game your looking for.

While Comanche Gold is a lot of fun it not really a realistic Flight sim and it's outdated.

I've never played DCS Blackshark but i heard it's no where as good as Longbow 2 and the missions are very boring,
so if you don't mind the older Graphics you can try out Longbow 2.

Other old but still good Heli sims are Enemy Engaged Comanche Hokum and the Digital Integrations Sims Hind and Apache Longbow.

Thanks - am keen on other perspectives.

HAd a read up on Longbow 2 over here http://www.simhq.com/_air10/air_320g.html and it may fit what I need.

I'm shocked at how little new sims have been developed since the mid 90s! When you imagine this game is 15 years old and is still you're favourite!

Black Shark is a great sim, but not pick-up fun orientated like Gunship.

There's also Gaijin's Apache Air Assault which I think is what you might.be looking for, plus BI's Take on Hinds although that is more sim orientated.

There are many new sims, but like old cars, people tend to love their first drive.

Longbow 2 is good for the semi-dc. That is the major reason why it's lasted so long: the gameplay. The other reason is that it's the only semi-realistic Apache sim out there.

But for the gold standard of heli realism you can't beat DCS:BS.
And now with DCS:CA and DCS:World opening up its doors to third party developers DCS multiplayer just got a whole lot more interesting.

Hi Gingertips,

You can't go wrong with EECH. You can buy it online for around $10 and, with all the community mods that have been (and still are) produced, it's on a par with new sims in my opinion.

A lot of the hard core sim stuff can be switched on and off so it's relatively easy to learn to use.

Cheers,

Andy

Thanks again for all your suggestions

Played apache air assault - not really what Im looking for - way too easy & feels like a console arcade game rather than a simulation.

Next, will look at EECH - that sounds interesting! Any useful links to look into more detail? Thanks
