I just ordered a new PC and I've got a question about transferring the game over.

I bought my base version of ROF from Direct2Drive. They were bought out by GameFly and when that happened, GameFly lost the rights to distribute a lot of games (like ROF). I've got the installation program saved to my HD, but the phone home activation code doesn't work anymore so my question is, how do I transfer ROF to my new PC?

I've got most of the planes purchased as well as a campaign. Will I be able to simply download the F2P version of ROF and still have access to my planes and campaign?

Just install RoF and log in.
All your activation details are held on the master server
So it doesn't matter were the install comes from, as long as you log in you'll get everything you should have

The problem I have is that I can't install the version of the game I bought as it uses an activation key and a phone home system. It tries to contact Direct2Drive to authenticate but seeing as how D2D no longer exists, the process fails.

Can I use the F2P version to access my stuff from the master server and, if so, will there be an issue as my version came with 4 planes while I understand that the F2P version offers 2.

It doesn't matter where you get the install from.
Use the FTP from the RoF site or see if there is a torrent for it.

It doesn't matter what version you install as long as it's patched to current.
once you log in it'll give you access to your planes and campaigns. Which are stored in your master account.

Do the control profiles transfer over as well? I would think one would have to put them on a thumb drive and transfer them...

You're right Dart, input profiles are local and need to be backed up if you move PC and want to keep them.

Can't he just copy the entire folder over?

That's what I do when I reinstall windows - copy the entire game folder to an external drive, copy it back when Windows is installed and off we go. Simplicity.
