OK, I'll buy in. It's a slow night smile

These are the devs who brought IL2 to the world, right? When IL2 came out in 2001 it was a stuttery bug ridden mess. Doubt me? Original Combatsim review:

http://www.combatsim.com/memb123/htm/2001/12/il2-rev/

And quotes:

...This (eyecandy) doesn’t come without a price, however. The very nicely done forests and cities can easily put you into a case of the “stutters” if your setup isn’t configured well, or you’re simply asking too much from your computer.

...Also, distant objects show up on my system as black squares. As I get closer they take shape and that dark contrasting shape disappears, it’s definitely not a game-stopper, but it removes from an otherwise very immersive experience.

...It seems that the early morning or dusk missions with ground fog in the low-lying areas tax my video card, but it’s difficult to say without a frame counter.

...The AI gunners on bombers are also uncannily accurate, and the AI gunners on the Sturmoviks seem to have a much larger field of fire than what the player will have if he or she takes the gunners seat during a mission.

...I feel that even though the campaigns in IL-2 are very well done, though they are probably also the sim’s weakest link.

...Unfortunately, it seems, that Ubisoft didn’t put as much care into creating the IL-2 servers as 1C:Maddox Games put into the multiplayer aspect of IL-2. There have been a lot of user complaints about connection issues while using the Ubi.com service, but a fix is reportedly on the way.

And despite all this, the reviewer rates it 'Instant Classic'. Have we become more demanding/spoiled? Did men in black suits wipe our memories?

And surprise surprise, these same devs have done the same thing, all over again and released a bug ridden mess, that they are patching to playability.

While they are working on the sequel.

And the patches will come only slowly, and there will be years between CoD and the sequel, and then years again to further sequels.

In case you did get a memory wipe, just to recap, the original IL-2 release came out in 2001, and it was not until two years later that the expansion Forgotten Battles followed. It was another year again until the Aces Expansion Pack and Pacific Fighters, and a full three years after that before 1946 hit the shelves in ‘07.

If you can't live with development at this pace, you seriously need to find another game to play...

As to believing what you read on the internet...

Sure, it's like being a fan of a game - that does happen despite best efforts.

CloD is unique here on SimHQ in that this forum is just to collect together those whose hobby is to not be a fan. It keeps the moaning in one place and gives some camaderie with the various endless grinding axes. CloD is endless troll food, where the peanut gallery is fun times but practically nothing to do with the actual sim. If you had never seen a single screenshot or were aware it was something to do with WWII then you can still be a valuable contributor to the Extended Forum. It's a Roach Motel but a necessary part of free speech (within the confines of a privately owned forum) smile

I feel it's more an outlet for those with disappointment issues to express their grotesque disappointment with what should have been the crowning glory of the IL2 series...And perhaps, just perhaps, if there were something concrete to actually discuss we would have something to talk about. I, personally, am waiting with baited breath to see how, precisely, they plan on getting all this high res "stuff" to run on most peoples machines while making it into an MMO with all the assorted sundry...

I think as an outlet it's useful the first fourteen times, after that it just it takes on a life of its own. There's a certain hilarity in the pious 'I am a victim' approach but there's nothing really wrong with it, free speech and all that. A lot get banned from elsewhere and there's a certain satisfaction to be had on the potential of winding up any that won't join the 'It hurt me!' club. SimHQ isn't a product affiliated place, and those are rarer nowadays for somewhere to continuously express disappointment.

Most that play MP have long ago left here (i.e. why bicker with people that don't want to play?) and the few SP fans will eventually get ground down maybe. There's a poetic irony in claiming 'Why is no-one here playing this game we all hate!' lol

I'm not complaining, just my personal observations smile

Slip - I see you edited it out but it always gives me a bit of a minor headache when we cut/paste big swathes of text from another forum and paste it in here. If they decide to pull it then it basically makes SimHQ look bad to leave it up. It might sometimes of course be justified, but life's usually easier to operate under a 'Do unto others..' approach and we tend to have to pull it out of basic respect for other forums moderation.

I had written some stuff, but decided it really wasn't worth it. I think everything that can be said about CLOD has been said thousands of times over already.

+10 to the "I want to believe" comment though. (nothing personal against Heinkill obviously)

Yes indeed, the mood around here does seem to have taken a nosedive lately, and I think you're right; It's not that anyones opinions have changed at all, it's that the people who actually enjoy it don't often post here anymore. We only need to look at the thousands of downloads of Heinkills wonderfully crafted missions to know that there are many fans out there.
I too 'want to believe', and before all the doom mongers mock me just remember, Mulder was right.................... abducted
