Hello!

Trying to revise Ojcar's "Asia for the asians", I found following situation about available Sentai's (aircrafts in table are historical ones in use):

As you can see, last two of them can't historically participate to late and early subcampaigns respectively and the latter use mostly an unavailable model (Ki-44). In addition, Ojcar offers a list of aircrafts including Ki-61 and Ki-100 never used by any of mentioned Sentai's.

I could search which Sentai's actually operated in those theatres of war, in those periods and with those planes, although I fear this would require the rest of my life (lol). So I thought to ask, maybe there's someone that already knows or at least has a better knowledge than mine (which is very poor, indeed).

S!

Just giving a glance to bases of all IJA Sentai's, NONE operated in ALL theaters listed in Ojcar's campaign. This also after discarding units formed after 1940, disbanded before end of war or using unflyable aircrafts.

Especially Burma front during march-april 1942 (period of third subcampaign) seems having no historical presence of japanese squadrons.

Really puzzled.

So far result of my study (star point out presence of that unit in that theater):

the most present is Sentai 64, but still missing from last operations. Of the sole squadrons that participated to early operations in China, none went throughout all campaign supposed by Ojcar. Classic case of "square sticks in round holes" (lol).

Suggestions?

Last message, just not to leave it incomplete. smile

Unlike WWI (I come from RB3D, as some of you may know), it seems impossible to find a squadron that operated for all war duration. It looks that "attrition rate" was high and often required rest periods as well as retraining for new aircraft models.

Besides, once again IL-2 dynamic campaign generation demontrates its limits and appears to me as something just "patched" on a game built for static ones. Only the latter, indeed, allow transfer from an unit to another.

Moreover, very few pilots, even for the Germans and Japanese, flew operationally for the entire war, and none in every major campaign. Careers in game that cover all the major battles are actually rather unrealistic from the perspective of an individual pilot.
