Hey guys,
I'm looking at creating a custom control panel for each plane (i would have liked to make one "all-encompassing" panel, but have found that to many of the planes are unique, and don't share all the same keys). An example would be an oil radiator, some planes have them, some don't.
I wouldn't want to have an engine fire on the spitfire, see my "fire extinguisher" key, push it ... and have nothing happen (cause then i'd have to look at the key and remember which specific plane that was for).
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a document that says what perimeters can be configured for the Hurricane, Spitfire, and so on.
Thanks guys!

Hi Apache,

I don't know of any doc like that, but it is usually the case that the mappings are all the same but things are missing on certain aircraft (i.e. oil radiator etc). It's not so much as case of having a different button to press each plane, just that it's not there in the first place! smile

The wheel brakes are different between planes, but that is mainly just between how they modelled the Allied aircraft using a switch on the stick vs having to press toe brakes (like the Axis aircraft).

It would be a handy doc to have I guess.

Also things such as 'open/close canopy' for British planes becomes 'toggle canopy' for the Bf-109, which is sorta annoying having 3 different keys for something that makes no gameplay difference...
Or how some bombers are 'toggle bomb bay doors' whilst others are 'open/close doors' then for some again 'simulate manually turning a knob by pressing this key repeatedly'.
It would be good to have individual key charts for each plane, if I can get COD working tonight I'll try to make one up myself.

Rather sounds like there were different modellers with different personal styles
in creating different aircraft models. Might have benefitted from a style guide...
Or were they trying to reflect the variety of the physical control implementations
on the different aircraft?

Your last question is closer to the mark, different manufacturers and different countries came up with different ways to do the same thing. You really have to think in terms of which aircraft you are wanting to set up, find out how they did it, then find the corresponding control in the game. Wierd I know, but actually easy to get the hang of once you do a little research into the real birds. And on the plus side (for me at least), you get to read more than combat reports of the old histories!

As far as binding keys go the Allied and Axis planes have a few different keys to do essentially the same thing as in Mixture or Prop Pitch, I just made the profile for my X-52 have both bindings under the same key since only one will work with a given A/C . In this way I don't have to remember different key strokes.

Alright guys, I've made some progress on a spreadsheet showing what keys are used by what planes. I've only done the Hurricane and Spitfire I, but now that the spreadsheet is done, and i've found key bindings that don't overlap and can test everything, the rest of the planes should go quickly.

I'm hoping this works; there should be two links below that i've created through a google docs spreadsheet. Please let me know if you see any inaccuracies or have any questions.
