Is this game worth a purchase?

I think if you like Arma2 based games...and you like WWII games...then definitely worth it. If I didn't win a copy on SimHQ (thanks Guod!), I definitely would have purchased it.

if you go in expecting arma2 with ww2 stuff then thats pretty much what you get. The tanks have been vastly improved but the AI are just the same, for good and bad.

Personally, I'm very disappointed. If I could get my money back, I would.

Think ArmA2 is great - but this isn't - it's pants.

Might be better in MP - I tried the SP 'familiarisation' stuff and was so disappointed I went straight back to DayZ and haven't touched this since.

Some of the guys at VCB (realism without the bollox) have been playing it on the server and reckon it's a laugh, though, but all agree SP is a waste of space.

One's experience with IF44 varies greatly depending on who you play with (SP is pretty useless). The Saturday games with the SimHQ guys are fantastic. thumbsup

I've only played it in MP and it's been great. Join the SimHQ games! smile

The other side of the coin is that it has received some harsh criticism, i.e:

If you've never tried an ARMA II based game then you can use the free version to check it out, that will let you see how well it runs on your system etc.

Actually... to me, I thought the preview copy I played was better then release... I warned them on the crashes with the preview version, they're still there. The SP worked well in the preview copy, yet... the AI are really alot dumber, or I didn't notice in the preview.

It was released, IMO, piss poor shape... what this game can become is just what I felt about ArmA2 when first released... but as of right now, I just don't care anymore. wink

IMO

Enven I know you like Arma 2.

It's World War Arma 2.

What's not to like?

The maps are great. The models are great. The guns are great.

I'm not usually one for spending money on what is essentially a mod but it is so well done that I don't mind.

Arma 2/IF 44 is a multiplayer game so any dribdrab about it's single player experience I'm sure is true. It's rubbish but so what.

Its a great mod, I seriously dont think its worth 30 bucks, more like 10. What makes this game great is the multiplayer, but your lucky if anyone is playing. I play late, get out of work late, so I only see one server with 10 players on average...to me thats boredom. If there were thousands of players online worldwide, then I would enjoy it more.

My brief review should be published in a few days. Reading the Gamespot review, I could not think of a case where I have disagreed more with an opinion of a game.

Overall, I give it a passing mark. Perhaps I am unique in the world, but I have yet to suffer a single crash of any kind, through several hours in the campaigns and even more hours of multiplayer over the last couple of weeks. Performance has been better than I hoped, even with SMAA enabled. The things that do drag down IF in my opinion, are the same old Arma bugs we've been seeing for many, many years now. Personally, I doubt the possibility that a licensee of the Arma engine can miraculously remake the franchise from the ground up, solving all it's problems. But working with what the engine does offer, the package offers great content, a decently playable single player end, and the vast potential for more from 3rd party missions.

For my own interests, it's going to live or die on the multiplayer community growth.
