Near PAX River..during testing..

UAV Down

There goes $25 million (or $218 million according to Wiki when you factor in development costs)..

It is unmanned, but has two pilots and two sensor operators. LOL.. One step forward, eight steps back. Sometimes I think we try to come up with the most complex solutions to problems.

Reminds me of a lot of government/military projects. James May from Top Gear once said, "It's a brilliant solution to a problem that never should've existed." - I feel like that sums up a few military projects throughout the years.

Not yet- max gross weight is too low to be able to use the catapults/ arresting gear for Nimitz- class. Something that's supposed to be rectified with the newer Ford-class.

Not good for the Global Hawk program. AF is cutting them and looks like they are trying to sell them to the Navy.

I read a news reports on this.

Reporters main query was about the navy spying on it's own citizens and why did they crash it on a navy gunnery range?

From the comments it seems there's a maintenance facility nearby and locals see the drones flying regularly.

Is this the "Drone" that was reportedly a UFO being transported by flatbed in the DC.

So I can't say too much about this other than repeat what has already been cleared - the mishap aircraft was one of the RQ-4A's the Navy received from the USAF. The RQ-4A is the "block 10". The USAF continues to operate the larger "block 20" RQ-4B's. They (USAF) also have "block 30" RQ-4B's that have some mission overlap with the U-2, and it's still up in the air what will actually happen with those birds.

The Navy RQ-4A's are part of the Broad Area Maritime Surveillance - Demonstrator (BAMS-D) program, which is a risk-reduction program for the full up BAMS (MQ-4C) Navy-varient of the Global Hawk.

http://www.navair.navy.mil/index.cfm?fus...1E-5818E57F9914

Lastly, pretty much all major aircraft programs have had mishaps. It happens.
