I'll guarantee you, anyone that is into WWII sims will come running clutching their money in their grimey little hands as soon as this is released.. and it will be released, yeah, whenever... but it will be released there's no fear about that.. Why?, because there is no other WWII title comparable to challange it.

I have no doubt it will be the next benchmark of combat flight sims at all elevations. I can't even imagine how complicated it is to bring all the planned features together with playable frame rates.

Personally I wouldn't mind if they doubled or tripled the price of the software. We spend thousands on computer parts just to run it and I've enjoyed many years of this product for a few measly dollars a year. They should get a bigger piece of the pie as the manhours neccesary to create these sims certainly warrants it. Maybe 150 dollars for the first installment and 75 for each additional theater addon that requires the original software to operate.

Until it's dragged up from the depths to be used against you in during a terribly unrelated topic three years from now.

Well, it hit me again when I thought of Olegs new creation.. When SoW eventualy hits the shelves with some of the fantastic new image's that we have seen, we are going to be totaly immersed for yet many more years to come, with yet more aircraft/maps/campaigns etc with the inevitable expansions and patches to follow!

Patience is an accelerator.

Guarantee them that if they release it before in their professional opinion it is finished, no one here will complain if there are bugs

I wouldn't want to accelerate development of BoB. All that atmospheric modelling and physics and environment mapping never mind Land's End to er, Watford objects-modelling: infrastructure and emplacements. We won't be getting London rendered as a scrawny bitmap with a couple of well-known buildings modelled sticking out like sore thumbs I bet <inscrutable gaze>
SoW is going to look even better. I wanna see dang it.

I have watched this for some time and found it most...uninformative. I have considerable doubt that anything will emerge other than on a "play box", and I am not interested in that. There is sufficient good material available now, to satisfy most, but the real whining we read, is for that which may not ever emerge.

I did too. Breaking out another Depends as we speak.

I think alot of "the other stuff" was completed along time ago. Maybe Olegs realized todays computers aren't powerfull enough for all the features he wants to put into this sim. This has give time for the modellers to add more aircraft and objects while his code team struggles to fine tune the engine to work with reasonable frame rates. This is probably all cr*p, I'm just killing time this morning.;)

If you read the 1C Forms it looks like the Oleg Q&A was aswered using a Magic 8 ball.

The SOW series should improve every aspect of the IL-2 series and even add some great features.

Luthier and Oleg have returned from developer-land with what looks like very good news about the new Storm of War engine even if it is only pre-alpha at the moment. The new game engine is under very close wraps, it must be something wonderful and surprising.

Enter something comparable to Steam, which I think is the future of software distribution.

It has been a long time, and I'm sure SOW will be the next combat sim benchmark.

Never started a thread with such vivid response to it before. But all I wanted to say that SoW in not likely to hit the shelves before this summer. What about discussing which summer Oleg meant?

We’ve made the Il-2 series the most successful, the most award-winning, the most
famous flight simulation of the 21st century. We hope to continue that tradition
after Cliffs of Dover. We’re planning to release a series of sequels that will take you
to new aerial conflicts during WWII and even beyond. Your purchase of this Special
Edition will help us realise that dream.

3. Performance.

We are in final stages of testing a thorough overhaul of the game’s graphic engine. It won’t look any different but it will be much more streamlined. It’s too early to say what the FPS increase will be in the final version, but it shouldn’t be less than 50%.
