Good day all.

Since installing 4.11.1 if have sporadically run into my game freezing up when I select Off line campaignes & Multiplayer campaignes. Not all campaignes freeze up the game but most of them do and I have to do a hard shut down to get out of the game.

The game freezes up after I click the "Generate" button when I choose the campaigne.

Any ideas on this?

Thanks,

Spitty

All campaigns or just some? Look in the game root directory at the DgenError log file. Although this file may not really tell you much, it can almost be like in code or something instead of being outright obvious what the problem is. Sounds like you either have some corrupt Dgen files or some missing possibly. Try to generate a campaign, if you get an error, post it in here. Maybe try to generate a bunch of campaigns as a test to see if it happens to all of them. I doubt it because that would mean either the Dgen.exe executable itself is trashed or you have a huge bunch of missing or damaged files in the Dgen folder.

Similar situation here. And it seems to be with static, offline campaigns designed with the full mission builder in my case. My Dgen campaigns work fine.

Everything was stable at 4.10.1 so I'm going to scale back to that. Incidentally, there's a lot HERE on it and most are referencing the hotfix for 4.11 as a solution. This hotfix was issued shortly after 4.11 came out and does not work with 4.11.1. I know, I've tried it.

If you check your windows event log you'll see some further details. Mine appears to be an issue with a graphics driver that just stops working. I have a Radeon but I'm not sure if it's specific to card type.

Looking at it again, my freeze is occuring during game play. And the Dgen campaign I was running was initiated before the upgrade. I haven't tried to generate one since upgrading. Anyway, I'm not going to mess with it anymore until it becomes a bit more stable. These were very specific issues ocurring after the upgrade.

Have you tried the recently released v4.11.1m patch?

This patching guide at M4T will give you the patching sequence.

Thanks Wheels. I now think this is a wholly different matter. I went back to 4.10.1 and lo and behold the problem was still there mad. Funny because I don't recall it so much before. I can only fly one short mission at a time. If I try another, it freezes in during mid play.

I think it's the ATI drivers I'm packing. This is an example of what I think it's related to:

Sorry to hear that you are still having problems Boilerplate. frown
You might get an answer at M4T about the drivers issue since there are a couple of guys using ATI cards.

I've got an ATI opengl file that you can drop in the IL-2 folder that works great. I can post my config too if interested.

Thanks ArgonV

I dropped my current opengl driver file into the program folder as well per some advice I saw at M4T and 1c. But now I'm thinking it's supposed to be certain type or version of the opengl driver that they meant - based on what you're saying.

I'm running Vista - but I don't think it's the OS. The driver I have is 8.391.0.0. It's not from a catalyst package, but one that loaded when I clean installed Vista. I'm running an old x1650.

Any help you could provide would be appreciated. smile

It sounds like a heat problem.
Open up your case and make sure your card's fan is still spinning.

Well.. three missions flown last night without incident. Amazing what a good cleaning of the ventilation will do. wink

I've been through this before and should have checked the machine up front, but the 4.11 upgrade problems others were having somewhat shadowed the real issue for a time.

I uninstall everything. reinstalled IL-2 1946 and went to http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/forums/265/1/IL_2_Series_Downloads.html and installed the patches again. Now no problems. Runs great now.
