Nice one Dirk, great plane and very realistically flown, that ATC sounded real.

Neat video. Pretty good pattern work. Good radio procedures.
If you had done a run-up, would all your instruments indicate ? Can you do mag check ? Do you adjust gyrocompass and magnetic ? Just wondering how much of the procedures you can actually do.
There was no ATC - that was all CTAF and/or UNICOM. And since he did radio check and airport advisory on UNICOM it means that it was probably a shared frequency. The transmission at the beginning was the automated weather report, ASOS or AWOS. Speaking of that, do you adjust the altimeter according to the report in the sim ?

Yes, no ATC because...well...no tower. You announce yourself to everyone on the frequency and tell them your intentions, and go. Had my airplane based at a non-tower airfield and really grew to like that. Just have to be careful, that's all. We also used a shared frequency with nearby Northwest Regional. Nice landing, by the way. I can't stay lined up with the airport in FSX. It's really wierd. Don't know why, but my landings are awful. If you saw me landing an airplane in FSX you wouldn't believe that I can actually fly in RL.

Yeah, I have this problem too, I always put it down to not being able to feel the plane and sense it's speed and movements like one can in real life.

Yeah sorry my 'nice ATC' comment was meant towards the Radio work... I realized there was no ATC tower replying or controlling.
As a virtual only FSX flier, it was nice to see someone doing such a good job vocalizing the stuff I normally do just via the FSX '~' "ATC" key and the numbers keys, which is really the radio calls and not talking to ATC for most of the small airfields I fly VFR out of.
I supposed folks who fly VATSIM probably also do a good job with that too, but I've never tried it either.

Really cool, demonstrative video. Out of curiosity, on that airplane is it typical to turn avionics on prior to engine start? My old school learning always taught us to start the engine first, then turn the avionics on due to the fear of "spiking" the avionics with a current surge upon application of the starter. Newer planes may not have that problem.. (Of interest is that our Citations and King Airs require the avionics to be off during starts..) Great video..very much enjoyed it..! BeachAV8R

Hey guys, thanks for the comments. @oldgrognard: none of what you mentioned, but she's still a great plane to fly and study flying and ATC communications. I set the wx accordingly, you should adjust the altimeter of course, in my video the flt had been preset. @pooch: I used to have the same problem with the line up until I took the time and set FSUIPC to take over the Rudder Axis from FSX then fine tuned it there. The move of the pedals became much biger, hence the rudder control became more smooth. @kluger: I'd recommend to try PilotEdge ( http://www.pilotedge.net), it's awesome in so many ways, there are a few great reviews (including one on avsim) and a 14-day free trial. @BeachAV8R: I don't think PFD/MFD turn on prior to engine start in the real plane. Could be some limitation of FSX/GPS code, not really sure. I'll ask the developer over at Flight1.
