OK guys, I finally have the hardware to run DCS A-10C on and I must say it runs like a charm except for a small graphic glitch to which I will come back when I have the screenies to explain.

However, I'm experiencing some weird behavior. The aircraft seems to be pitching, yawing, and banking to its own will and is therefore very difficult to control. It's like I'm flying a Cessna 170 in a hurricane. Also I get the feeling that my joystick input is only marginally effecting the aircraft. I suspect the aircraft to atleast attempt to climb up hard when I pull the stick back entirely but instead I can only get it to pitch up like 15 deg. or something. I figured it's not simply a sensitivity setting because then it wouldn't stop pitching up at 15 deg. for instance. Finally the pilot's head/viewpoint seems to be off-center and is constantly in motion without having TIR or equivalent software enabled.

I know that my Sidewinder joystick is not the greatest but I've seen countless posts of peole using this joystick while flying DCS. Besides, the old MS stick still works fine in all other sims.

Just be mindful, it happens that axis inputs have been automatically assigned to the same input devices...
Just check in the options/control tabs -> Axis

Could be it.

I had the toe brake axis assigned as pitch and yaw...

Saw the title and had the same thought, happens to me on occasion the toe brakes get assigned as flight axis and my plane does some really weird maneuvers always good to go through the control page the first time through and un-assign things and re-assign them correctly.

OK, will take a look at it when I'm back home. When I first started DCS I found the controls page rather overwhelming so I was like, whatever.. just leave everything to default, that's the best setup anyway most of the time.

Before I got my X-52 Pro I used a 20.00 Logitech stick with A-10. The pitch axis went some thing like "nothing...nothing...nothing full deflection AOA beeeeeeep". Roll was fine and the stick worked fine in FSX. Very odd.

Hi JayPee -
When you go into the Options to set your axis assignments, make sure to select the "Sim" list of assignments - it may come up on the 'Free Camera' list. Also, be on v1.1.1.1 or the newer DCS World compatible version.

You can check your axis ranges in the Axis Assignments and adjust response curves and deadzones. See the Reference section at the top of this forum and look at the Pass The Grey Poupon for some ideas on curves.
Axis Curve Examples

Use the option to see your axis values when in the cockpit - RCntrl-Enter.

Seems I had to callibrate my devices as well- Quite often there's some input being registered that you are unaware of- I know with my joystick (X52 in those days) unless one of my sliders was in the middle it was considered ativated (I think it was for airbrakes).

I would check the callibration on the devices, verify through associated software that something isn't "actively inputting." The off center may just be the gravitational effect on the pilots head as your swirling around in your cessna.

Keep us posted on your progress.

You can of course do a ramp start training and test what is actually moving the control surfaces using the F2 view - the controls screen isn't that straightforward - and I only noticed dual mapping via this.

Ah, Eno, this ^^^ reminds me that I should re-calibrate my Warthog Throttle's Microstick in Windows again. It's kind of jerky when slewing the TGP and the Mavs. Calibrating it again should smooth it out...

Don't know whether you do this WC but the first thing I do is always to head into the Stat page and set my throttle ministick slew rate to 2 - much faster and never seems to get jittery!

OK, gots it! FF off, axis properly assigned, and sensivities tuned. Although I'm still experciecing something odd, hard rudder input will roll the plane top down almost instantly.. Sometimes even out of control. I know the side effect of giving rudder input is 'some' roll, but isn't this a bit much of a side effect? Or is it me being used to FSX' arcade-ish FM versus a far more realistic FM in DCS?

It could be a bit of column A, a bit of column B. Always be gentle with the rudder in the hog - you typically won't be needing to use it for anything other than take off and landing anyway. You shouldn't need to use it for weapons delivery. For turning, rudder is automatically coordinated for you by the SAS, so you don't need to do this either unless SAS fails..
