Some basic conditions

This is the main window of Comanche Gold MISSION EDITOR with choosen new mission terrain - Guantanamo Bay Sunset



In the Comanche Gold Mission Editor
the entire map of the every one new Comanche Gold mission is
a matrix with 64 single tiles 8X8 - see down right small grid in the above picture.

The edge of every one tile is 1024 metres long - see the left part
in the above picture.

The zero point is on the upper left corner of the matrix.

The X beam is horizontal, the Y beam is vertical.



Guantanamo Bay Sunset - a single tile - 1024X1024 metres





Guantanamo Bay Sunset - the big grid - 64 single tiles 8X8 /8192x8192 metres/

This is an example - the map of the mission "Bastion" - it uses only small part of the big grid

A simple custom mission creating steps:


I will use as an example my custom mission "EVACUATION"


Create the scenario of the mission who can answer to the questions :
- what will do comanche? - escort and protect 3 chinooks
- will you use a wingman? - yes
- where and what will be the start comanche position? - a peak of a hill from field hospital
- where and what will be the final and intermediate comanche positions? - just one destination point - the airport of FREETOWN
- how many enemy will be in the missions? - 2 armored columns and 2 air patrols
- what will be the start, intermediate and final position of the of each enemy group? - the armoured columns will thread
the field hospital , the air patrols will move close to way toward the FREETOWN

- what is the win condition? - minumum 1 chinook to reach FREETOWN
- what is the lose condition, which will be the enemy goal? - to shoot down all three chinooks


Write a brief description of this mission and draw a scheme of the positions and the ways of all involved units on 8X8 matrix.




1.Open the Mission Editor,choose New mission menu and choose "Guantanamo Bay Sunset" Terrain Type.




2. Open the Preferences menu and put a checkmark infront of "Show Entire World"
and "Show True Direction" options .The first is for easier switch between the tiles
the second option is to show the direction of the objects.





3. place the comanche player on the start point




4. press F6 to open the waypoint manager, then choose player list, press F7
to open waypoint mode and place the final comanche point and name it.




5. Open "object" menu , choose "select base class" and here are 3 options : "Static", "Surface Vehicles" and "Aircraft"
choose Aircraft, find the Wingman and place it near the Player,then put all other non movable objects
from the sub menu "Static" on START and FINAL comanche position




6. On this point it is a good idea to save your mission - the saving creates 2 files SMC and SMO type




and by this way you can reopen and finish the mission in convenien time later.



7. now you have to place 3 chinooks near the start point
put the checkmark on Enemy Goal, choose letter B for WayGroup and digit 1 for Waypoint


with F6 choose NPC ListB , F7 and place all waypoints for group B - from B1 to B10 max



8.choose and place all units of the first enemy armour group - type letter E for WayGroup and digit 1 for Waypoint





with F6 choose NPC ListE , F7 and place all waypoints for group E




9.now you have to do the same steps to place units and waypoints of the second armour column, first air patrol
and second air patrol.




10. on mission editor menu "Mission" open "Edit mission" and "Mission Briefing"
here type the mission description.



11. on mission editor menu "Mission" open "Export Data" - to make a file for playing the game a MRF type file




Its all at general without some little details and you can see pictures, videowin, hints
and download for gaming this custom mission N10 with name "EVACUATION" here :

I actually tried to make mission that go beyond the limitations of the mission editor. I used a Hexeditor to edit the mission editors exe to switch maps and it worked and i also used the hex editor to add triggers and sound files to a mission. If you put in some time you can make a mission that is almost as complex as the Cgold campaign missions.

Hello flogger83,

Can you describe your method in easy steps too - it will be very useful for other mission builders !

How to hexedit the mission editor to swich maps and to add the triggers ?

Do you have ready for use custom missions and can you post them ?

It's at least 6-7 Years since i did it. I'll try to reinstall Cgold on my Windows 7 64bit pc, if it works i'll post a video and screenshots of how i did it.

A really nice post here, ufolev.

I've had many ideas for 'realistic' Comanche missions in the past but I just never found the CG mission editor to be very fun or easy to use.

One of the main problems I encountered was the terrain heights/contours. With the very basic heightmap overlay it was almost impossible to tell if you were placing units on flat or steep terrain. I'd enter a mission only to find that the individual units in a SAM site I thought were placed in a flat-bottomed bowl surrounded by hills, were in fact, half-way up the hills at gravity-defying angles!

I also found it hard to judge distance, and it seems that the original missions were probably made with a mission editor that allowed for larger terrain usage. I'd place an AAA unit at what looked like several kilometers in the mission editor (literally the other side of the screen), only to find in-game that it was shooting at me at my FARP!

I'm having a problem uploading Images! I click on upload image into post and it opens a new page but nothing happens. Is this normal.

This is the New Map added to the mission editor, i swapped first snow map in the editor for the last map in Frozen Friendship:



I'm having a problem posting images. Once i've figured that out, i'll show how it's done.

by the way you can use the FLYBOY MOD to increase the resolution upto 1024x768,
also terrain and object detail - not a big deal - just copy-paste it in comanche directory.


about pictures upload - try to use other NET browsers than already tested

the right way windows



and the result is an info for FLYBOY - if you press F3 you can switch to height map useful to place objects

Thanks for this. I've been playing around with the mission editor lately and have forgotten tons about it. This was an excellent refresher.
