It is not an OAW error.
This usually happens because an incorrect screen or menu has been loaded.
In 1.28D which evolved into 1.28E the main and selection screens were increased in size from the old 640x480 to 1024x768.
The 1.28E exe does not support the old 640x480, so if there is an old screen, or an old menu file, or both in the root folder then you will get the error you described.
It would happen if you used OAW to load an old campaign which has the 640x480 screens, which is why a number of them have been made 1.2E compatible.

There should be no reason to load new screens.
From your other posts you had installed 1.28E and had it running.
All the correct default screens and menu files for 1.28E are in the CDF files installed in your 1.28E upgrade.
We know that worked, because of your engine start problem, otherwise you would have got the "Pic wrong resolution" error and never got into the game to even start an engine.
So, exactly what did you do after that?

You installed OAW, but which version?
For all I know it might have been an old one that you already had and re-installed, or the one for 1.28E.
Did you use it to load anything?
If so what?

One possibility is that somehow your 1.28E eaw.exe has been replaced by an older one which only uses 640x480 screens.
This will give you the "Pic wrong resolution" error because the screens in the CDF files are 1024x768.

That version of OAW is ancient and not suitable for 1.28E at all.
For now, step by step let's try to get you back to square one with 1.28E.
Run the four upgrade files in your EAW folder to reinstall 1.28E, then run EAW.
Let me know what happens.
Once it is up and running we can get the right filemanagers

For now try setting up without OAW, and using the DirSet Picker from the link on this web page:


DirSet Picker Page

Download the DirSet Picker utility from the first link on the page and install it.
For now, do not download any of the scenarios such as Desert Air War from the links (pictures) further down the page.
If you run the installer in your EAW directory it will set you up quickly, and give you full access to your 1.28E install.

It is probably worth an explanation at this point.
When EAW runs it looks for files it needs in the root folder. If it cannot find them there it gets the default ones from the CDF files.
OAW copies files from folders in the OAW folder, and pastes them into the root folder for EAW to use.

In the development of the 1.28 series we added new routines, and one of the key ones is the "Dir.Set" system.
If the 1.28E exe finds a file named "Dir.Set" in the root folder it reads it.
The "Dir.Set" file contains a list of folders that EAW can look in for the files it needs. This means that there is no need for files to be copied and pasted into the root folder by OAW, so much of what OAW does is no longer needed.

The DirSet Picker lists the files in the "DirSets" folder for selection:



That's the extensive list on my PC with a lot of test stuff in it. If you install it there will be only one file which is "ETO01" - you can download more later and the names will be added automatically when you install them.
If you select it by double clicking it will read the file named "ETO01" copy it, but paste it into the root folder as "Dir.Set".
EAW will use it, and the stuff in the "ETO_01" folder which you already have installed when you installed 1.28E.

It gives you access to four plane sets which include some multiskin squadrons, and five seasonal terrains. 1.28E automatically picks the terrain from the mission date.

Once you get this set up and you get your head around using it you can download and install more scenarios from that page. They are all set up with the correct size screen and menu files.

After that we can look at OAW again if you still want to. The 1.28E version is set up for expert users to actually create their own plane sets.

We have only just scratched the surface of 1.28E

Check the "Planes" folder. You will find there are well over 300 folders in it. They are organised in folders for each of the 30 EAW plane slots.
The flight model data folders end in "FM", the others are skin folders, so you have a heap of skins already.
The planeset folders in "ETO_01" contain "FMDir.set" and "PDir.set" files. This pair of files contain the paths to the flight model and skin folders to be used in each slot.

Planesets (and several other things) can be chosen from the game configuration screen if you have used the DirSet Picker and selected ETO01:



The 1.28E exe reads them and loads the listed aircraft.
Please try it out and get your head around how it all works before worrying about adding more
