Agreed. Rooney was crap and very out of sorts the goal aside (first touch was awful), but scoring is what its all about.....so fair play. I still would have started him, he is one of the truly world class players we have and needed the game under his belt. Sharpen up though laddie!

England needs to win against Italy (which is a little selfish, I admit, for Germany will then once again fulfill its historic destiny bestowed upon that nation by the Gods of Football at the beginning of time itself.....narrowly beat England in penalties ).

From the German POV, the match I fear the most is the upcoming game against Greece, because they play extremely defensive, and because after beating Portugal and Holland, the German players might make the grave mistake of underestimating the Greek team.

In soccer, Italy was always French nemesis... Maybe they didn't wanted to meet them ... on the contrary, we always did pretty well against the Spaniards...

It was also a very clear offside that the referees failed to catch, which would have been just as big an injustice against England if it had been ruled inside.

I agree on the England/Ukraine goal decision, the ball was in, but the same officials missed an obvious offsides on the same play so the bad decisions cancelled out IMHO.

Looking forward to seeing the quarter finals especially the Portugal/Czech game, I think Germany (vs Greece) and Spain (vs France) have the easiest games and best chance to go through to semis.
