Hi guys,

I am a long time fan of IL-2 series and play IL-1946.

All the issues around IL-2 CoD (beside my outdated system) kept me away from getting it.

My questions is, are the main issues solved? Is the at a playable level and what is a good system to play it well.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards,

Michael

I was going to leave it as 'on the shelf collecting dust' but I suppose that isn't very helpfull.

A new graphics engine has been introduced in an alpha patch (plus hotfix) but this was mainly for testing and bug reporting purposes. there are numerous issues acknowledged by the developers which they say they are working on. In particular trees are a known performance issue as are clouds and grass.

ETA for improvements being implimented....Your guess is as good as mine.

No, most of the main issues are still there, not much in the way of fixing the original issues have been fixed. Some of the issues introduced after a few of the patches were released are fixed, but there is still little progress on fixing the script, AI, FM's, DM's, dynamic weather, clouds, Crossfire (or SLI), and other inaccuracies have been done. On the plus side, the game is capable of running on lesser systems now. While I'm not sure of the real minimum specs needed, it runs quite well (fps wise) on a mid system. Mine is a i7 920 @4.0 Ghz, 12 GB RAM, GTX 560 Ti w 2Gb.

Don't look at the original release videos either, the graphics qualities have been reduced from those standards (and probably why it runs better now).

I wish they'd stop trying to improve performance and instead focus on adding content... like a real, immersive dynamic campaign with ranks, news and other period pieces that make you feel like you're there.

It is for that reason alone I won't buy it. Oleg has NEVER understood that stuff like this is important.

Such glowing reviews.

I think this forum had more - 'umph' pre game release - when all the anticipatory fantasies were dancing in various noggins. biggrin

And why shouldn't it have been ?. IL2 was pretty much the undisputed King of the hill in combat sims and CoD was the next generation from the same stable. As to more umph it is a bloody tragedy that a developer could have such an army of fans who believed in them as they did and to then see it like it is today.

Anyway, tomorrow is Friday and if we are very lucky we might see a faithfully modelled Russian outdoor Khazi circa 1941.

The sad thing is that even the developers don't know.
