I've ordered a new gaming PC, which had the parts pre-selected by the store as part of a "special", and the card it comes with is the NVIDIA GTX 570. It rates pretty decently on a chart of GPUs, but the card is still over 2 years old. I couldn't afford to buy the best card, especially on top of the cost of the PC.

So basically what I'd like opinions on is if this 570 will still run most games on the highest (or at least high) settings. CPU will be an i7 at 3.4ghz or something like that. 8GB RAM for system memory.

Buying it mainly to be able to run ARMA 3 properly when it comes out, along with ARMA 2, Iron Front, FSX and basically all the other graphics intensive stuff that SimHQ'ers like to play.

If this card doesn't quite cut it, the option is there later on to possibly upgrade to one of the $500-600 USD cards. Maybe around Christmas or later...

on a single 1080p screen it should be "OK" to "decent".

Yeah I've been running single screen on a 560Ti/448 which is basically similar to a 570GTX but a bit more overclockable and I was perfectly happy with it for 1920x1080p, I just upgraded to a 670 now for triple monitor, otherwise I would have been fine for another year or two.

Ok cool. Thanks guys. Yeah just planning on a single screen setup. Maybe on the NEXT rig I might go for a triple setup. biggrin

If I can get a consistent 30-40 FPS on ARMA games and flight sims, I'll be happy for now. Just getting tired of having to play on lowered settings, and still getting poor performance. (PC is 4 years old and using a GTX 465)

Yeah I think you will be happy with the 570, my Arma2 framerate on the 560 OC'ed was 50s-90s depending on the locations with big cities multiplayer being the low end.

Why wouldn't it be? The 5XX series has just recently been "upped" by the 6XX series of cards, so you will be "just behind the curve" as far as bleeding-edge goes... or am I badly mistaken?

In Arma2 it should do well; my 560Ti can chug thru it pretty decently with most settings on high/max; usually get ~45-55 FPS on an empty Chernarus map (most other maps like Takistan and custom maps run faster). But usually during a real mission with AI my CPU limits me to 30-35FPS (you shouldn't have that problem)

It's starting to show it's age with some newer titles; but like with Arma2 they could also be limited by CPU/data speeds. Usually it runs at 60+, and I just use vsync since that's fast enough for me

It should tide you over until you can save for a newer one

570 will be fine till at least next year, when the 670's price should drop. I currently run the 570 and have no issues in any games. I run most games around MED to High it just depends on the game and what type of performace I need out of it.

My current system run Arma II just fine and that was on 2.4Ghz and a 8800GT with 4GB of ram. A 570 would and will be nice!
