Though if it had been someone who didn't want to rent to a gay couple, a single mom with a different man every week, or an anti-war protestor, he'd be in jail so fast his head would be spinning.

Personally, though, I think a landlord should be able to rent or not rent to anyone they want. This includes veterans. Private property rights have been trampled on for long enough.

I can see your point from the property rights point of view but the landowner should have just declined him and not stated the reason. Since they declined him specifically for his veteran status it sounds like he has a case to me.

As a veteran I support this view. Private property is private property. That said, I'm sure this woman is for government enforced discrimination in other areas, so I'm kinda glad to see karma come back to them.

'Ultimately, the decision on whom you should rent to is up to your own judgment.', according to a Massachusetts lawyer specializing in landlord-tenant law for that state.

MA apparently does have a law making it illegal to refuse to rent to a veteran because they're a vet. But, this guy had never actually submitted an application for the apartment. A technicality in many places (at least in my experience you usually don't do an application unless you know you're getting the place) but I'll bet it'll cause the case to be dismissed.
