The skin is looking good - as usual I dare to say ...but desert camouflages for the He 111 is more than rare, in case you´re desperately looking for such profiles. Mostly the Heinkels flew sorties from their Europe-based airfields in usual RLM 65/70/71 camouflage. Some variety might bring black lower surfaces for night attacks or squiggle patterns for sorties over sea against allied shipping

Fran,
I have a few photos of KG26 machines in a 79 based camo. I have at least one from each Gruppe, but I can only confirm photos from 2/I and 9/III KG26 with proper codes. I've got much more data for Ju88 units.

Yes, Ju 88s in desert camo are no problem. When I skinned the 5J+AR here I finally had to discover it was wearing a dust-covered RLM 70/71 instead of a RLM 79 camo

Interesting Fran.
I wonder if the Luftwaffe used a temporary (water based) version of 79. They used a washable white in the East and a black based on lampblack(the soot from oil based fires) for temporary night camo.
Since I'm going to be winging these birds, I'll do a bit of creative coloring with Italian colors too and over painting of 70/71.
P.S. any thoughts on which Ju88 unit to skin? LG1 perhaps? any input will be most helpful and appriciated.

Mike, there´s no temporary RLM 79; this colour oftenly used over RLM 70/71 with meandering or greater splotches Regarding the He 111 I´m convinced it was a plane too large for all-time desert camo regarding the fact most He 111 units were stationed in Italy or Greece with different climates and surroundings. RLM 80 for fighters was delivered in seperate cans IMO to create field-applied camoes which were able to fit with the green surroundings the Luftwaffe encountered when falling back into Tunisia. Afaik the He 11s returned to their bases after their attacks not being far from the coast line so in fact it was only a short distance to cross over desert areas. The Ju 88s flew see-saw sorties, i.e.they refuelled in Africa. So they were staying on desert ground for a longer time and had to be protected from enemy sight.

You oughta clean your Heinkels, Mike - they´re as dirty as Pig Pen Btw, the fuselage windows of the He 111 are remnants of its time as passenger plane. On the H-6 the four windows(left and right) of thethe fuselage front part were closed by alu sheets and painted over. (You´re really skinning torpedo He 111s? That´s fine )

Fran, Those machines were kept very clean, it was in the regulations that they be washed and waxed twice a day. Only, some Feldwebel lost (read tossed into a dust bin) the manual that contained the cleaning regs. Oh, and I still have a few more variations to paint... 9/KG 26 was experienced in naval attacks and was reported to have used torps.

Hi Mike,
Stab III./KG 26 had the fuselage code 1H + *D the letters for (*) in green RLM 25 ( = RAL 6000) E.g. 1H + AD, + BD, + CD , + DD etcetera. Do you look for particular planes or skins?

Fran, I'll take whatever I can get. If you have any photos or illustrations of 111's from III/KG26 send them my way. And thanks, Danke, for the tip on the Stab codes.
