Its same game engine as ARMA. I would gift it to you but I have a son inbound so the mrs would literally have my balls on toast tomorrow for breakfast if I spent anymore on games for the rest of my life winkngrin

Hehe... no worries.

No idea what you mean by "same game engine"... I mean two games may have the same engine but play entirely differently. What I am wondering here is if you can take control of the tanks... and how "accurately" are they represented? Obviously the screenshots are drool-worthy...

Think ARMA but set in WW2. So you can play as anything from foot soldier to takner to pilot. The big upgrade for the engine with this game apparently is that the tankers have been really upgraded, with armour penetration etc etc modelled. Might not be super hardcore but certainly a massive improvement on default ARMA and also enough to get alot of tank simmers excited.

Right on! And supports TrackIR?

I seem to have read somewhere that the initial release was very buggy, true? Or has it been fixed?

If i'm being totally honest, the ARMA game engine itself is quite buggy, but as with the old Hidden and Dangerous, you learn to actually work around or love the bugs. I cant speak for liberation'44 just yet but it the impression i got from the SimHQ lot is that its as buggy in that OFP, ARMA and ARMA2 have been buggy in various areas whilst still managing to be immersive enough to absolutly make you want to play until its 4am (This is MP btw).

SP is a different story and depends what you want in a game. As a tinker/tweaker I personally love the editor, making my own tiny missions playing them a few times, then making more rinse and repeat. Magnum told me via twitter that SP is like ARMA SP, so a bit poor re: AI but that they have really been enjoying MP.

BTW you should note my total bias here as I am a massive OFP/ARMA fanboy and love the dev teams work, the engine etc. So the idea that Liberation is just ARMA in ww2 stylee is highly apppealing.

Would love some in-tank gunner view and comments on tank-vs-tank warfare!

And can you drive and shoot by yourself or do you need a separate guy to drive/gun for you?

Here's a view from the gunner position

You can choose your position within the tank. Exterior commander view

Loader seat, all positions look simliar, you can pan around in all but the drivers position

Tactical map view

Me, as commander giving out helpful tips

Gunner tips

These are the circle of numbers

The firefights are pretty intense, AI varied but deadly for the most. This enemy tank may have had a dead crew as it casually drove past us and several other tanks

AI commander targeting aircobras, ehuh? The combat zone is fairly active with aircraft, and little guys with guns running about. And tanks.

Lol, I'm sure you messed up that tactical map view somewhat...

So can you drive/operate/shoot the tank by yourself or do you have to have another person in the tank? Or can you have two people in the tank with one spotter+driver and one gunner?

Yes that tactical map is a test lol. Yes you can operate a tank by yourself, manning any station. Multiplayer, not sure, but would assume each position is manable by players.
